COVID-19 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON

Recommended Posts

I made a post regarding this topic weeks ago but now the subject has came up and it's been hot & heavy in the last week.  The 2020 high school football season is something that many school districts are going to want to see pushed back due to the fact that some districts haven't had an opportunity to do anything all summer.  We have one more week and then the two week 'Dead Period' will follow.  On July 6th football workouts are scheduled to resume with hopes of playing the 2020 season beginning on Friday August 21st.

If there's a delay in the season it's going to have to be pushed back to the week of September 4th.  This is the absolute "worst case scenario" to where we could fit the entire season & playoffs in before Christmas.

Anything other than this would result in eliminating games and/or number of playoff qualifiers from each region.

COVID-19 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON:  EMERGENCY PLAN

Week 1:  9/4

Week 2:  9/11

Week 3:  9/18

Week 4:  9/25

Week 5:  10/2

Week 6:  10/9

Week 7:  10/16

Week 8:  10/23

Week 9:  10/30

Week 10:  11/6

Week 11:  11/13

Round 1:  11/20

Round 2:  11/27 (Thanksgiving Weekend)

Quarterfinals:  12/4

Semifinals:  12/11

State Championships:  12/17, 12/18, 12/19

The following two weekends would be Christmas on 12/25 and New Year's on 1/1 and those are both out of the question.  Anything after this would not work because of the threat of severe weather and it would run into the second semester of the school year.

Thanks. I know colleges don’t want the Virginia plan because it interferes with pro draft and lots of players won’t play.

What? Interferes with the pro draft? I don’t want a spring season but I don’t believe what colleges want should have any bearing on the decision in Tennessee. 99.9 % of high school kids will play whenever.

You think college players are going to play college ball in May and skip the draft to play another season of college?? HS can play in spring if they are not early enrollees to college. I just said that colleges are not for it. It is a last resort. Got a feeling HS’s will follow suit with colleges at end of July. Going to be hard to play all three sports starting on December 28 with HS basketball if HS’s followed the Virginia plan.

    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
