If I remember right, they were missing a DE, a WR/CB, and a LB. There may have been one more. The DE was the biggest loss as he was the punter as well.

We were missing 2 WR/DB's. We played them after having 2 weeks off, and we were rusty in the 1st half. 2nd quarter on it was a different story.

I don't believe the players that were out would've made that much of a difference,  especially with what we were doing.

City fans my disagree, but there's really no way to know for sure.

I’m not a city fan but I will disagree. FC is a different animal that what you saw. Missing players and the ones they picked up late in year make them a different team. With those ejected in our game we almost came back on them and we was just average this year. I think SP will win because they are a very good team this year but I believe FC will be the best team they have played in playoffs also.

Did your new players play against huntland in quarterfinals? Cause in all honesty, sp could have scored a 100 points against huntland. I think FC has some good athletes with speed but I think Gordonsville would still beat them... cause of line play. But in playoffs anything can happen!

That’s my biggest question about FC. If they have all these speedsters and big boys, how come they played a barn burner with a team who can’t physically compete with SP. we had like 49 points at halftime in that game.

Just looking at their scores it was 8-8 at half with them and huntland and it was 14-10 in 4th qtr with them and huntland going into 4th qtr in quarterfinals.

And I understand huntland probably got better, but if we had played them in the playoffs, we woulda ran them out of the state. So there lies my question, what reason do I have to believe FC can compete with us?

Better be careful with the huge blowout predictions.  I heard those in 2011 as well and we know how that turned out.

I need proof that they can hang with us. And against the same team we played, they struggled mightily, twice. Regular and post season. We ran Huntland off the field and had the freshmen in the game in the 3rd quarter.

I read where they have several new additions. I’m sure that will help them. I am picking the Pirates to win it all, but I am guarded against those brash predictions.

They had those additions two weeks ago when they were in a barn burner with huntland. A team we beat 56-7. They barely skidded past them.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
