MichaelMyers76
Nobody wants it because the district doesn't value athletics. No stipends for assistant coaches. You are only going to find so many people willing to "volunteer" coach and you typically get what you pay for.
18NCS
Curious to know why Cheatham County appears to not value the impact of quality coaching. The lack of money for assistants is troubling and it appears that the power that be don't care. The people in Cheatham County deserve better. FtBallTimeInTN
HC Stipend 3k and 2 AC Stipends of 1K...I know coaches don't get in this profession for the money, however you can drive a bus and make 10k and get home a whole lot sooner. flyintheointment2019
Sycamore and Cheatham should have never become two schools. It should still be one school like when I went to school. Pleasant View and Ashland City deserve better.

You're right about coaches not in for the pay. Divide the compensation into the actual hours and it's embarrassingly low, even for most "good" stipends... having said that, there's no way to hire and keep a decent staff for 5k per year. If the School Board can't do better than that for the program, the community should let them know through the election process that such a weak effort isn't acceptable.

BoardHater71
LIST OF POTENTIAL CANDIDATES KC Littlejohn: he's been on the staff as the DC and he played at Sycamore and knows the kids better than anyone from a coaching/qualification standpoint. He would bring the stability to the program that Justin Robison brought from 2016-2019. Jack Littlejohn: I don't know if he would look to leave Hendersonville but he's from Cheatham County originally and would be rock solid hire as he's got lots of experience and a great understanding of the game. John Harrison: he has most recently coached at Springfield and is now at Sycamore and is from the county. He would be a great hire for the War Eagles if they chose him. Matt Carrigan: currently serves as the head baseball coach at SHS and is a sharp coach who the kids would play for. I'm not sure how he would handle being the head coach of both programs but he would do a great job. Daniel Smiley: he's my "wildcard" in the mix. He did such a great job with the baseball program at Sycamore for so many years and guided them to several sub-state game appearances. He has an unbelievable work ethic and would do a great job. Billy Coleman: I believe he's currently at Smyrna and he's also been at Rossview and Northwest. He's a sharp football coach who is from Cheatham County and has the coaching experience. James Figeroua: has been the head coach at West Creek in Clarksville and with them making a difficult jump to 6A maybe he would look to return to his roots and take over the football program at Sycamore. Chris Langley: has coached at Cheatham County, Stewart County, and Fairview. He's a very bright football coach and would do an excellent job at SHS. He also currently resides in Pleasant View. Jett Brinkley: has been coaching at Cheatham County with Gary Halstead is will one day be a head coach in the county when all is said and done. This would be a great opportunity for him. Wes Proctor: a former assistant football coach and head wrestling coach who graduated from Sycamore and resides in the area. He would be a great candidate. Dustin West: he was the offensive coordinator at Cheatham County for several playoff teams under Eric Hatley and is from the area. He would work hard and do a great job if given the opportunity. Terry Arrington: a former head coach at Friendship, Cheatham, Kenwood, and Northeast who also served on staffs at Springfield, Davidson Academy, Goodpasture, and West Creek. As the head coach at Cheatham County from 1994-1996 he took them to the 2nd Round twice. Michael Conner: he has served as the head wrestling coach at Clarksville-Northeast for the past few years and has been a football coach at Fairview and Northeast. He has the years experience and could relate to the kids. Zach Douglass: he has served as the defensive coordinator at Harpeth for several years and is also the track and field coach. He works hard and is a sharp younger coach who would do a great job. Michael Carter: head football coach at Cheatham Middle School (also head Girls Basketball Coach). He is a bright football mind who may want to take on the challenge of leading a program at the high school level (ie Chris Hughes at Fairview, Chanz Swartz at Stewart County, Houston Thiel at Creek Wood, and Dustin Wilson at Springfield)

None of them give 2 cents about quality sports programs. The communities could step up and pay the assistants like qb clubs but it takes someone in charge of that to raise the funds. Raising funds is hard work as well. I would guess Camden raised 20 to 30 grand a year for about 15 years in a row and the results showed it. Creek wood is a good example. they have both and thrive in most sports
