2A Region 5 Preview

I would think that this would be Forrest’s region to lose.

My picks would be:

1. Forrest- been the cream of the crop the last few years in a tough region.

2. Summertown- has a lot of talent returning if the rookie head coach can get them playing together.

3. Cascade- graduated a few good players but had a lot of freshmen and sophomores starting last year.

4. Mt. Pleasant- always has athletes but can the new coach get them in line and transition from the single wing to something that suits the talent.

5. Loretto- don’t know much about them other than they can play baseball and basketball with the best in the state.

6. Richland- another good baseball and basketball school but hasn’t been real successful on the gridiron.

This is pretty well reasoned. Can't argue with any of it. Well, we weren't cream last year but over the last several years we have out accomplished any of these teams by a mile.

if Eli doesnt get an offense none of this matters. last years offense was all time egregious especially considering the talent at QB.

how does he not regress even more this year?

if Eli does somehow let someone else call plays/formulate game plans, the only two games that are likely for sure losses are at Moore and at Marion.

Otherwise, i can only call a quote that a player shared after Eli's first season: "I basically don't know what I'm doing."

Will be hard for Forrest or any 2A team to replace what would likely have been an All Region player this season and an All State/ Mr. Football nominee caliber player his senior year. Great to see he still has a positive attitude and will still be a part of the team.

Mt. Pleasant Tigers (2020  Record:  1-8)

Coaching Changes: Kit Hartsfield New Head Coach from Blackman HS; Andrew Holcomb-  OC

Key Returning Players: QB Tevarious Streyhorn,  ATH - Demarcus Brown, WR - Jeffrey Williamson, OL - Dontavious Ellison, OL- Hardin Hughes

2021Outlook: Expect a much improved Tiger squad this season with a new coaching staff and an entirely new offensive and defensive systems, outlook, and attitude. Gone is the single wing system of the past and expect the Tigers to spread the field. Mt Pleasant recently took 2nd place at the Shelbyville Central 7 on 7 tournament. They looked very talented compared to the other 22 teams there. Sophomore Darian Mesa, a track and field standout, had a big tournament day. A very disappointing 2020 campaign saw MP lose 4 one score games but they did pick up a win against new region foe Loretto. I predict a Fayetteville City style turnaround this season for the talented Tigers and they will be in the mix for the region crown.

Any offensive changes for Forrest this spring? Did a QB emerge to replace last year's starter? Is new DC making any changes? I saw a game or two at Shelbyville 7 on 7. A few decent looking athletes but had trouble covering deep balls and did not look to have much overall team speed. Offense has to improve over 2020 to have any success in 2021.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
