What is happening at Columbia?

Recommended Posts

Been a crazy couple weeks in Maury County. Columbia Central high school fired their head coach, Jason Hoath, the first day after dead period, and now he’s been officially hired by their crosstown rival Spring Hill high school.

That now makes 3 former coaches from Columbia Central that have been hired at Spring Hill the last few days, and reportedly a 4th coach is considering the opportunity to leave Columbia for Spring Hill. When they play at the end of season, this will sure create some extra drama.

What is the deal in Maury County? Anybody know the story?

People outside of the program wanted Hoath out for a while and with the new principal they finally got that opportunity. Assistant coaches don’t want to stay in a toxic environment and Spring Hill needs the help.

This was a subject at work today. The way it was explained to me was politics were involved and two to three people amassed control. I don’t know as I’m not personally involved but that’s what was stated.

Politics involved in high school sports???    Say it ain't so!         LOL, yeah bro I hear ya, we have a quagmire of politics going on in the eastern part of the state too.    Sorry you guys are going thru it

It’s sad Blazer. Seems as though some parents take living through their children too far.

An overall record of 23-31, 7-22 region record, only 2 wins vs teams that finished with a winning record(3A and 4A teams) and ZERO wins vs a 5A opponent with a winning record in 5 years, numerous discipline problems........but yeah it's politics....get real!! Columbia has way too much talent to be that bad and before all the apologist get on here, yes they won a playoff game last year vs a Gallatin team in triple OT that was 6-7 but actually only 4-7 on the field.  2 of their wins were Covid wins.  Howard Stone was axed after 4 years and he had a winning record and a state runner-up and yet you never once heard the absolute meltdown and whining that these apologist have now. The program is more important than one coach or one player.  The program and it's players deserve the opportunity to compete at a high level.  Those numbers mentioned previously don't reflect a program that was competing at a high level!

It’s politics and lack of effort from the kids. Revamp your staff with people that’s in tune with the players and stop sugar coating.

So being 42% overall and 24% successful in region play is political? What line of work would allow or keep anyone employed with those kind of success rates?  If it makes you feel better to say its political then good for you but your "feelings" don't erase the FACTS!

    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
