Mt. Juliet hosts Gallatin

Opening games are so hard to predict, especially one that's been a rivalry game for over 40 years.  Just looking at how last year's season went, and the experience returning for both, Mt Juliet would be the obvious favorite.  However, I've seen all 3 Gallatin scrimmages, and I'm hoping their grit and scrappy attitude carries right over into the regular season.  They must hold on to the ball, that has been a preseason problem.  It will take lots of ball control for the Wave to have a shot.  You can predict this or that, but in a big opening rival game like this, lots of unpredictable things can happen.  In fact, this 39 game series is full of them.  That's why they play the games.  Kickoff is about 9 hours away, it should be interesting!

That is always true of rivalry games. Anything can happen.

From what I have seen of Gallatin so far (which isn't whole lot but enough to form an opinion), the Wave is going to live and die by ball control this season.  With that being said, Gallatin is built to do just that, control the ball.  If they can methodically run the ball on this MJ team, Gallatin has a shot.  If not, could be a long night for the Wave.

Some things went wrong for Gallatin and some things went wrong for MJ… one thing for sure,,, Gtown has got to change that offense up. Wing t is not for them.

meanwhile boy did the swoner thorneberry connection click! Swoner had a field day out there, he really has improved. Theres A lot of upside to this offense this year. Cut out the dumb penalties and MJ really will be a top threat in 5a this year.

ps… to whoever thought thorneberry was injured long term. Incorrect.

No team has ever won a state championship in the largest division running the wing-t.  You must be able to throw the football with consistency.

Gallatin does not run the wingT.  It’s the flexbone triple option.  However, it made no difference tonight.  MJ was clearly the better team.

Your right the Swoner to Thoneberry connection was on all night until he went out with cramps.  Gallatin had no answer for the MJ passing game.  What was disheartening was that most of those were just slant routes and they could not stop them.

it was just game one but the fumbles continue to be a problem.  This offense cannot be effective if you cannot hold on to the football.  Even if you don’t lose possession they are drive killers.  Congratulations to Mt Juliet and I would not be surprised to see them win 9 or 10 games this regular season.
