Those were the years after the Byrd era.  Cland was really struggling with the transition of not being a powerhouse anymore.  There was a lot of infighting.  Coach keith was fired after 3 seasons.  He was given the boot after finishing 2-8 back in 2006.  Imo,  it was a dirty move by the admins at the time.  Things temporarily got better in 07 and 08,  then the bottom fell out of cland football.  2011 was embarrassing with losses to hancock, north greene, and unaka.  The unaka loss was particularly painful because we had the lead and just collapsed in the final minutes.  In 2012,  cland began a resurrgence.  There was a lot of talent back in the hallways.  We just hired the wrong man to utilize it.  It was a grave mistake.  We had some really good seasons but could never compete with region 2.

That wasn’t a very good Unaka squad back in 2011 either. Their best 4 or 5 kids that were returning all quit to just play basketball. This area and our conference would benefit from this to become a competitive game year in year out between 2 good teams. May even push one or the other to take next next step and be more competitive come playoff time. Which for Unaka just means being able to win one right now.
