Marion hosts Tyner in Region 3 Opener for Both

Can the Rams of Coach Chandler compete with the Warriors in this early season region battle?  A lot on the line in region positioning in what may be the best region in 2A. Game probably won or lost in trenches but a turnover or special teams play may turn the tide.  The punt block late in first half last year really propelled MCHS out of their doldrums to their first win over Tyner in a few years.  I think Tyner can keep this close. We shall see.

Marion was very lackadaisical last night in their win.  I look for tyner to load the box with what little offense we have shown.  I'm picking tyner in this one by 2 tds.  We have some monsters in the trenches but they have to play nasty in order for us to be successful.   Special teams wise, ours have been great so far this year.  4 special teams tds in two games. Two kickoff returns, punt return and a blocked punt return.

This is going to be one awesome game for our kiddos to be a part of this week. We had a closer than expected game with Sequatchie County on Friday, but I am sure Coach Pruitt was saving a lot of new plays for Tyner. Tyner is a whole lot better than Sequatchie so we had no reason to use them last week. Speaking of last week's game. Our kiddos played hard and was really hitting Sequatchie. The first kickoff that Taye scored a touchdown on was something dreams are made of. He is such an amazing athlete. I am so glad he and his wonderful family are part of our Marion family. Taye and another one of his teammates are getting a scholarship chance at Vanderbilt. It is coming up real soon. I can't wait for them to get their offer. What an awesome honor. The May and Taye show on Saturdays at Vanderbilt would be so cool for these kiddos. I am hoping they get to go to that school. I love how Coach Pruitt gets these kiddos seen by big colleges. He and the staff are doing a great job. We need to improved in some areas from last week. A few times the Sequatchie kids were sacking our quarterback. I do not think this will happen when we get all of our kiddos back and playing again. I can not wait to see what new plays Coach Pruitt uses on Tyner. We used some new ones on them last year and it made us win the game. Tyner is usually a good team so I know our coaches and kiddos will be ready to show out and play Marion County football. As always it is a great day to be a warrior.

I am not sure but I hope it is for quarterback. Taye is an amazing kiddo and athlete. Vanderbilt would be do great things if they would let Taye play quarterback or running back either one. That kiddo is like a streak of lightning.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
