Oakland - Summit 6A State Championship

It seems LA and CPA’s fronts were able to dominate Oakland and move the ball on the ground with relative ease. They both have the size and physicality, which Maryville seemed to have based on the first half of their game.  What did Oakland change in the second half of all 3 games to differ the outcome?

Does Summit have similar size up front?

Summit is the best team Oakland will have played this postseason. This is the "True" Championship game for those who want to say otherwise.

We shall see.  I honestly think Oakland throughout the whole year played 3 teams better than Summit (CPA, DL, and Maryville).  BUT that's why the game is played and congrats to both teams for making the SHIP!!!!

Friday night for Summit only 3 players touched the ball on offense.

Actually 4 touched it...which is the same number that touched it for Oakland that same night. That's an irrelevant point anyway as teams will always relay on their key players. It looks like each team has 3-4 guys that rely on primary with a good group on each side of the ball supporting them. Summit has played as the underdog for the last 4 years, so they welcome this position. Oakland is used to being here. Summit has nothing to lose and Oakland knows they're the ones with the target on their backs. Can't wait to watch it.

Alright here we are with championship week.  Looks like people are trying to over think the Patriots.  They will run their offense and defense like normal and adjust where needed.  Oakland has their foot in the gas on offense and the defense proved last week they can do a great job with great speed and tackling.   Go Patriots!

Exactly.   They will continue their smashmouth football.   The Wade brothers are great athletes.   Oakland has seen plenty big time D1 athletes this year from plenty of teams and they even have a few of their own.  How many points did Hendersonville defense give up to Summit?  Oaklands defense is much better.   Oaklands offense?  Clicking on all cylinders.

Summit is a very good team,no doubt and can play with probably anyone in the state.  But they ain't beating Oakland.

    • What you are saying is true about high school athletics being a privilege and not a right, but NO ONE ever knows what will happen if a case goes before a jury.  Again, I have been in a couple of jury rooms and it's always a little crazy.  That is why my prediction is you will see a settlement before the case goes to trial.

    • So you want a have and have not split? Sound like the perfect ramp to elitism. Tell those rural kids that they'll never be able to compete with those urban kids. They're not good enough right? Or we could just do what travel baseball does and have tournaments every weekend and give kids big fake rings for winning a few games. The suburban public schools are typically the ones with more funds. Urban and rural schools have more in common in finances than they do with rural schools. I've taught and coached in all of it. The difference is attitude. But if you're jsut going to say you can't compete because you don't have the money then that's an excuse. Especially in basketball. The balls are the same size, the rims are the same height and size. The ball dribbles the same in some rural gym in mountains as it does in the FedEx forum. Charters come and go like a fart in the wind. They are no real threat to anyone. Magnets could be but rarely do they win either. It just hasn't been seen in Tennessee.
    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
