I seldom attend games anymore, but I am going to try and get to Rhea Co. when y’all play there next year. I have never seen Alcoa play in person. I spent time at Rhea Co. 30 years ago, but haven’t been back there in ages. They have a great stadium. The visitors side is the former home side, so there is plenty of room.

Hearing there is some more renovations coming to Eagle stadium this off season to go along with the indoor practice facility which is under construction.

I doubt that I will recognize the place. The last time I was there was one of the years that Tim Hammontree was head coach.

I keep hearing about Alcoa being the best in the state.  impressive list of championships for sure but how would they do playing teams like Oakland, LA or McCallie this past year?  I think those 3 are in a class by themselves.

They lost to Maryville and barely beat Knox West so they would lose to all three of those teams by a pretty good margin.

And you know this how? Because of how other games went? That's not how the game is played. They should lose to Oakland, but for anyone to say they would lose to any other team not named Oakland or Maryville is wishful thinking.  Again, like a poster said previously give their AD a call and make it happen. If not, just sit in column of teams that cancel playing them.

Fact. When Alcoa had teams canceling games due to Covid, there was not a team to be found that would play Alcoa. Central and Elizabethon had the same Friday open and declined.

Oakland his better than Maryville...Period! I watched LA play Oakland and they controlled the game against them for three quarters. McCallie I believe was the best team in the state. Alcoa is very good, but definitely would not beat any of those teams. We all know the game is played on the field , I am answering a hypothetical post. If you can't handle it, don't read these posts.

Hypotheticals don't have 7 time defending state champions losing to anyone not named Maryville then.  I gave credit to Oakland because they are the only team to show up year after year against Maryville and beat the champ.  No doubt those teams are solid, but to have Alcoa take a backseat to anyone and lose a game is non-sense until those teams can do what Alcoa has done. One state title although nice, does not mean you've arrived in the same conversation as those who do it yearly. Give Alcoa, McCallie or LA schedule and you get the same result. Not sure you can say that for LA or McCallie if they had Alcoa's schedule.

you keep basing your opinion on past seasons.  we are talking about THIS season where Alcoa had a MUCH easier schedule than any of the other teams mentioned.  I get that Alcoa's long term success is very special but it has little to do with what happens this year outside of team experience.  I think Oakland beat LA partially due to experience in tough games (LA had zero close games all year) but they are just a great team.  I don't think Alcoa's past years override the fact that they didn't play a tough schedule to show what they can do.

and Alcoa isn't the only team having trouble scheduling.  Dilfer called out teams on the radio by name that they wouldn't take his call.  I don't have anything to do with scheduling and you probably don't either. but please don't act like Alcoa is the only school that has a tough time finding teams.  LA played 3 out of state opponents for that very reason.  BTW, one was a top 100 defending and eventual state champ of Arkansas...and they got mercy ruled.  that plus smoking CPA 2 times are quality wins which Alcoa doesn't have.

in the end, I hope LA's success continues and they get to play teams like Alcoa.

    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
    • No my fight, but ... if they were already college-caliber prior to transferring to BHS, and they already had FBS interest, and they end up at an FBS school, how did Bearden do anything for them?
