Impressive!  I'm glad the Tomcats were able to get at least one preseason scrimmage in.  I'm  also glad to hear we have some kickers.

I agree!! Playing like that against a 6A Bartlett team is impressive! They are generally competitive even in 6A! I am assuming the Tomcats will not be able to get another scrimmage in before the Jamboree?

I just glanced at the schedule for the Tomcats this coming season, and it looks very favorable for the Tomcats. There are only 3 teams that had a winning record last season in L.C., SGC, and Covington. I hope this does not come back to bite the Tomcats when the playoffs start and they play some really good competition. I know scheduling is always a nightmare for the Tomcats, but I would be looking for stronger teams to play during the regular season. This schedule is really weak. Just sharing my thoughts.

Yeah Haywood is going to have to hit the road to find some competition after this cycle. Nobody around here is going to want to play them if they don't have to.

It’s def not what we are use to but we play what we can get. We’ve tried scheduling the Houston’s and a few private schools. Just no luck

Idk what happened to us scheduling briarcrest, and MUS.

Kinda thought the same thing. What about Briarcrest, MUS, Lausanne, Oakland, Germantown, even hit the road to Mississippi if needed. I know there is something up because Coach Smith is not scared to play anyone. Look who he played when he was the HC of his previous school.

Again, I think this schedule is just going to hurt them in the long run. There are really only 2 games on the schedule that someone might question if they could win it..... 2.

It comes with its territory. In west tn the only 4 teams that have not lost talent are us, SG, Covington and Peabody. Those are the only 4 that has carried the torch consistently. In a few years Haywood will most likely be 6A but as of now unless we play teams from middle tn or outta state it’ll remain

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
