Does Gordonsville split carries amongst several kids or do they rely heavily on one guy like they did two years ago?

The ball has been spread around this year. Although if everyone is healthy I’d say they prefer to hand it to 32. They could throw it to several different ones but I’d say 15 has the most big plays.

I was blown away when I heard that Gordonsville has 25 seniors.  Is that accurate?   I thought our group of 9 was big for A ball.  With Gordonsville at 365 enrollment and Clay at around 320, you wouldn’t think you’d see that big of a separation in the size of those groups.  Obviously the old saying of “they can just play 11” always applies, but 25 seniors, WOW.

That seems accurate they had a huge number of senior banners hanging when I watched play Oliver Springs.

That is accurate. If I'm not mistaken, they have at least 75 players on the team if not more.

It’s more like 20 but not all play. There are quite a few underclassmen that play. When everyone is healthy I don’t think any player plays both ways, which is helpful on hot nights but I don’t know if it matters late in the year

I've heard that Gordonsville doesn't have a single player that plays both ways, which is not very common at the 1A level. I've wondered if Coach Jackson might change that when the playoffs roll around and start playing some of his better players on both sides of the ball

Clay scrimmaged several good teams. Watertown, Monterey,&coalfield. They handled those scrimmages with ease. Lost to Dekalb in jamboree but only played starters a quarter at most. I’m going 22-14 Clay for their first ever region title.

We do have 20 seniors and around 70 players overall. Many of the seniors have started since they were freshmen.

Most of our players don't play both ways. Some of the skill players do, but none of the linemen do.

Thanks for clearing that up regarding guys playing both ways, I figured there had to be at least a couple

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
