Maryville Basketball

Maryville started out 3-5 this season.  Now they have won 8 straight games including wins over Alcoa, Oak Ridge, Stone Memorial and Bearden.  One huge reason Maryville has played so well lately is because of Matthew Clemmer. I remember Govman saying that Clemmer would be a bigger loss for William Blount in Basketball.  He was right. He is an outstanding Basketball player.

You and Govman are correct, Ron. Maryville has looked like a totally different basketball team since Clemmer joined the squad. Games with William Blount will be very intense this year, imo.

He’s good, and I’m sure they could use him, but doesn’t look like he’s too big of a loss, while they sit at 18-3.

Bball81 ... Hardin Valley is a pretty tough team this year.  They are also ranked in the top 10 in the state this week.  William Blount is solid.  Not certain how they'll stack up with some of the Memphis teams.  I think Blount has one of the best 1-2 punches in the area with Wendell and Roberts.  I DO believe Caden Wendell is the best player in the district.  But I'm a homer of course.  I think WB, Maryville, Bearden, Hardin Valley, and I'll throw in Farragut ... are all capable of beating one another on any given night.  WB has Farragut and Maryville this week ... so the picture might clear up some on those two.  Blount will have to play their best game to win these two.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
