Not happening. As it turned out Lincoln County must have been the 2 weakest team in the field they only lost by 1…

Apparently. I think LC would have beat them 3 outta 5 easily. Maybe LC is more talented than I gave them credit. I felt like LA got a lucky win on a last second bucket. It’ll be interesting to see LA going forward.

The way the game was called they allowed a lot of handchecking in aggressive play up top which played right into the game of southside. Upperman was never able to overcome the guard pressure by southside, which I knew would be a problem for us if they called it loose now. They call it tight different ball game but Best team won on the floor and that’s all that counts

This your way of making an excuse without making an excuse hahaha

Looking back and hindsight is 20/20 Upperman looked pretty good running at a better pace. Know you said and obviously the coach thought they could win a game in the 30’s, but Upperman might have done better playing a little faster. JMO.

You need to get out of West Tennessee and come to the UpperCumberland where there is more gold and silver than anywhere else in the state in girls basketball. Upperman takes a backseat to nobody. They are the reigning state champions and they have beaten southside on the floor when it counted and until then they are still the state champions and they will be at the state tournament. Let’s just find out how good Southside is but until they win, don’t crown them just yet. I get they’ve beaten up on all the cupcakes in West Tennessee but now they have to play real competition. There are four teams in district 7 that could have easily went undefeated with that schedule.

Our guards needed to handle the ball little bit better than they did but a lot of the credit goes to south sides players. They basically enforce their will and Upperman‘s guards were not able to handle the pressure that they put on the wall. The freshmen will get a lot of experience from that and they will be better for it. Upperman is loaded and will undoubtedly be back.
now having said that, you don’t just replace an Abigail Johnson, but she’s had a great career. She’s a state champion and a great player. But the future is very bright for this program they will continue to compete for a state championship year in and year out.

No inside presence to replace her right? Do that middle championship team have any size? #24 will be a very big loss next year

Pretty dominate win for that team out of the west with the cupcake schedule..

I wouldn't call it dominant. I watched in the stands and wondered many times if SS would throw it away. They finally got it together late in third. This is coming from a Hogeye fan who roots for LA and whoever is playing Upperman

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
