I was looking at some Gordonsville scores since we always matchup. They look to be pretty good on defense but struggle on offense.  Based off scores that is.. How is Clay? I saw where they have gotten it rolling lately.

Clay and Gordy are very evenly matched like the last 3 years, honestly that game will be close again and can go either way. Clay County has flaws in areas like the O and D lines and gap management on Defense, but their main problem like most rural single A squads is depth. Clay has a Jr QB that will be a Mr. Football finalist next year, he had 4 ints against Portland the other night.

From the looks of it SP doesn’t play any competition the whole year being on the east side of state. No wonder why they cake walk to finals every year. Which begs me to ask are they really that good year in and year out or are the rest of the teams just that bad?

Old Pirate says ain’t nobody should be skeerd of the Pirates year end, year out. Theys ain’t never really good, jest mediocre bunch of good ole boys having fun and routinely get lucky. Figure it is a dang shame the younguns win atoll. Recon, the Pirates lucky Ifin they not wearing the helmets backards! YepReconSo

It's pure luck. Honestly I hope we get a first down this week.  Maybe MTCS will feel sorry for us and let us score.

SP consistently produces great talent dat can compete wid anyone in da state in 1A, the competition in da east is stout at times and other times it iz weak like dis year.

Either way da piratez usually have da talent to compete wit da teams out west. May not always beat dem but dey have da talent to compete almost every year wid anyone in da state in 1A.

Just for the record the playoffs have been going on for 53 years with the East winning 27 and west 26 of them. SP has been to the championship game 13 times winning 6. with 3 mercy rule wins. Most of the losses came down to the wire. Their worse loss was to Brentwood academy when they lost by 28 pts. You can decide yourself if they have been good or not.

I’m still stunned that SP beat NJ like a red headed step child. I figured we would win but it’s hard to believe we’re really 62 points better than them. They had some big kids.

And I believe 1 TD called back. And the Chiefs with just 27 yards total Offense

That B.A. game in 1974 was the 1st game I remember seeing the Pirates.  The air raid sirens were going the whole time.   I think they were using 3 balls at once!

    • The golf preseason came to a close Friday at Indian Hills as the I-24 Invitational hosted by Rockvale was contested. Webb School won the title by 13 shots 295-308 over Rockvale. Rockvale girls won the title by five shots over Providence  Christian 155-`160 after the Lions won the 1913 Invitational at Johnson City by 10 shots over Greeneville. The course was wet and muddy in the morning but the rain finally broke and some good scores were had. The Webb School boys had Phet Phothong score a 69 while Carter  Burks shot 70 following up his 72 in Johnson City on Monday. The girls had Solia Mechling of Rockvale lead the way with a 73 in taking the title as they improved their score by 30 shots over Monday in East Tennessee as they found the homestead Indian Hills to their liking.  Rockvale and Central Magnet will head to the Battle of Hermitage on Wednesday July 31st. On Tuesday Stewarts Creek and Smyrna will do battle at Smyrna Golf Course  with an early tee time of 11 AM. The next day Oakland, Webb and Nolensville will tee off at Champions Run beginning at 9 AM. Eagleville will open on July 29th heading to Lawrenceburg and the Country Club awaiting host Lawrence County and several other teams to tee up the regular season.
