When I was in school Alcoa was our biggest rival but afterwards we were all friends again. Some of my best life long friends played for Alcoa back in the day. I can say a lot of issues between Maryville and Alcoa are driven by adults and always have. It was the adults that have taken both schools for a pizzing contest to see who can out do the other. No two other schools in this state this close together have the athletic facilities these two schools have. There was a time Maryville College was the place where jamborees and playoff games were played because it was a step up and 50 years later it looks like a dump site compared to these two schools facilities. There are many people that hate each other from both sides now days so much over this rivalry there's no telling what's going to happen next. When adults act as they do about this game played by kids it's time to end this BS once and for all before something really big happens.

I will never want to drop this rivalry. I love seeing Maryville beat Alcoa. Alcoa will win another 3A Title. Honest truth it doesn't bother me one bit Alcoa has won more State Titles than Maryville. Alcoa doesn't have someone like Oakland to deal with. I love the fact that Maryville owns a 43 game lead in the series. No matter how many State Titles Alcoa wins. Losing to Maryville 25 times in the last 30 seasons tears them up.

Rivalries are the lifeblood of sports, even more so for one like Maryville & Alcoa. If Alcoa was just good for a 3A team that'd be one thing, but they are one of the best public schools every year. Pretty soon OR will be a region game anyways
