Proud of West for finding another way to win and go back 2 back. Had to replace 16 starters from last year and these kids just would not be denied.

Hats off to Page for fighting till the end. I really thought West was gonna win by a 31 to 14 margin the way the game was going, but they shut West down and changed offense up to score and find success against the West defense.

Nonetheless West won and is the 2023 State Champs!

You got to admit that its amazing for Page to come up empty on both those drive inside the five

This was Page's game to win, their late game time management costs them the game and it was all on the coaches. Had they used all 4 downs and failed, I would be disappointed but I could live with that if I were them, but to run out of time with more downs available, nah...

Strange coaching decisions I saw tonight:

 

Page ran it down the rebels throats early, but rather than stick with it decided to throw long?  no explanation that makes sense to me, but West's #6 sure benefitted from the repeat decision again and again.

 

Page went for on fourth down on their own 20 while they had a lead.  Rebels set up with a goal line defense and make the stop and the get the points.  Foreshadowing.

 

 

West late, still holds the lead... were there 8 minutes left?  They threw on all three downs when they could have eaten more clock.

 

Page went for it fourth in the fourth when they could have taken a chip shot FG to put them within 2.  I thought at the time that they should kick it because they'd make a stop and get a chance at the winning FG.

 

In the second half page burned their first two timeouts for know apparent reason and then they used the last way too early.

 

I also really didn't understand why page pulled the starting QB late.  the wildcat was an okay option, but you had to know those should have been throwing downs.  Did the Senior QB end the game on the bench? I thought so.

 

I have to say when I saw the coin toss I thought page had it locked up.  They had a bigger more powerful line.  The qb hardly ever got touched.  page ran it when they wanted (except against that west goal line d.)   Why didn't they stick with their strengths?

Thoughts on the game

1 odd coaching decisions tonight by both staffs at times

2 The referees let the kids play didn't make the game about them

3 Was good to see Cummings get a ring hate that he got hurt it really changed the West play calling in the 2nd half this was his 3rd school in 4 years and he finally got to play for the school his dad played and coached at

Yeah Conner is a good kid and I'm glad he got to go to state and win. If he was still at Oak Ridge he would have gotten another WWA t-shirt! Great game Hope he isn't hurt really bad. Maybe just bruised up.
