McKenzie @ Huntingdon - Week 1 Showdown

Recommended Posts

Dead period is over so football will now be in full swing.  McKenzie will travel to Huntingdon for what will most likely be the Week 1 game of the week.  I suspect Paul Ward Stadium will be packed out.  The Rebels are bringing back a ton of talent behind their new coach.  The Mustangs lost a few key players, however they have a ton of talent stepping up.  McKenzie has won the last four in a row.   Can the Mustangs snap the streak or will the Rebels keep rolling?   Who you got?  What to look for?  Breakout players?   Let’s discuss……

I’m taking Huntingdon, they are a little deeper in depth so the few who did leave can easily be replaced . Mckenzie is going through a coaching change so may be a little slow out the gate to start the season but they also have to replace a SR LB core that started multiple years for them, both are going to be really great teams this season . I think they are both winning state .

The difference will be QB play and if Huntingdon can slow down the passing attack of Surber and company. Of course I want Huntingdon to win, but they can't come out like they did last yr with stupid penalties, turnovers, and missed opportunities. Hopefully, the coaching change will slow them down for at least the first game.

If Hodge gets beat by Huntingdon they will be ready to run him out of town. Mckenzie will come in with a huge target on their back. He went from a team in my opinion that was the better team last year in Dresden to the team that beat them.

Is this post necessary? It's just one game...

it’s a high pressure job no doubt … I can see some screaming for his job if they get put out in the 3rd round or something too but Mckenzie is in great hands with him at the helm .

What's a bigger rivalry in West Tennessee than Huntingdon vs Mckenzie? Mckenzie has won 4 in a row correct? Hodge inherited the keys to a State Championship contender so if he loses to Huntingdon there will be some serious questions to answer first game or not.

I will have to disagree, I don’t think if they lose the first game of his first season to a really good Huntingdon team that he will or should have any heat on him.  He is a great hire for McKenzie and they are the favorites to win 1A regardless of how they do vs Huntingdon.  Even if they lose week 1 they will still go 9-1 in regular season.

    • Looks like our first three games will be some tough competition. We are predicted to win against 1A Chattanooga prep and expected to lose the next two games against 5A East Hamilton and 2A York Institute. I've looked at Yorks schedule and they will have had the hardest schedule I've seen in a while for a 2A team. They will either be battle tested end of season or playing the water boys due to everyone being hurt.  The Chattanooga Prep team played Boyd Buchanan much closer than I would have thought on last years schedule, so I expect that to be a hard game for us as well if we can pull it out.  These predictions are Massey's and not mine just a fyi.
    • Age wise correct! His som  will play somewhere small and maybe he will just wanna be a dad!Caine puts in more time than mist may wanna re charge for few years!
    • I think you are right on the money with these predictions.  You seem well versed in West TN high school football.  I’d like to hear your predictions and thoughts for 1A region 6 if you would be willing.
    • I have heard another one after that is possible.  Still though it’s hard to see any school system justify spending money on a field upgrade for an existing school while building a new school. Going to turf and the stadium upgrade would be a large investment. I looked it up and turf starts at 250K and up.
    • 1 new HS schefuled in 3-4 years. On the White County side of Cookeville. It will essentially split the Cookeville HS school population from 2200 to two schools of 1100. Probably like two 1250 by the time they build it.
