Schools to look out for

Recommended Posts

My knowledge is from region 3 down. Sorry for the lack of. Who are some teams that we should be on the look out for?

Region 1a is pretty much a lock for Greeneville with TN and Crockett moving to big school.  Fagundes, Shelton, and Gillespie look to be doing great things with a young team. I’d expect this team to have a deep run at the state tournament the next 3 or 4 years.

Region 1AA will be a ton of fun to watch. I was excited to see what TN high could do the next couple years if they remained small school but still should be competitive moving back up. I see Dobyns Bennet coming out of here. They are only getting better with what they have coming from their middle school programs. Science Hill is a few clicks away from being competitive again. Excited to see them and TN High reignite an old rivalry. This region could be some of the most competitive region duals.

region 2a Pigeon Forge and Anderson county could be a battle. I’m not sure how long Coach Foreman has left but I would like to see him go out with a successful season.

region 2AA Halls moving up a few years ago really threw a wrench in section 1AA. Halls will come out of this region, is 2 up for grabs? How will halls be next year? The beginning of this season appeared to be bumpy but they pulled it back together immensely.

region 3a I feel will be upper man and Samuel Everett. Alcoa had a heck of an individual tournament but I think all those kids were seniors. Believe they had 5 medalist?

region3aa  Cleveland-Bradley. Nuff said.
not starting up ridiculousness on this thread but I am curious. Has anyone heard anything about the situations for both the boys and girls Cleveland teams?

would love to be more informed on region 4 and up for both A and AA.

Alcoa only graduated 1 medalist. The tornadoes return 3 state medalist and two more wrestlers that have won matches at the state tournament.

JP2 will be much improved with William Simpson at the helm and also teaching at the school.  Will they compete with the "big boys" anytime soon, absolutely not but once their feeder program is up and running for about three years, they will be much improved.  It's not a coincidence that the programs that work smart and compete year around typically receive the most accolades during the season.

Objectively speaking about Region 4AA - It’ll come down to Blackman and Warren Co.

Blackman will still be young, just not as young as we were last year.

Coach Harris has done a good job at Warren Co, and Coach Matheny has started churning out gritty Warren Co MS teams over the last few years, so they’ll be consistently tough as well.

AC, like many schools will be up and down depending on getting a couple good classes of kids.  They probably underperformed this season IMO.

They will take a step back next year. They'll have 3 or 4 decent kids but that's about it.

There are some major problems with the newly formed White Buffalo club team and HS booster club.  They've gotten very toxic very quickly and ran off long time supporters and people that were friendly to the high school program. Example- club coaches and adults should never tell kids to keep secrets or hide things from their parents. Specifically injuries. The supporters that got the program where it was the last 2 years are leaving.  Several kids are talking about transferring or quitting outright. The head coach is a very good man, Matt does very good but he's one guy.  Unfortunately he has no control over the club.

Gibbs and PF will be tops in region 2A. Probably Greeneville and PF next year out of sectionals.

Greeneville is young and getting very good very fast.

Hate to hear that about the club.

Does Gibbs have some hammers coming up from Middle school? They lose everyone but Eller.

Hope too see Blackman producing some hammers again. I’ve always enjoyed watching that team wrestle.

I hate to hear all of that.  What you guys have done out there and the growth of the program in just the last 4 or 5 years has been very impressive!

    • sounds like you know that team better than most. You are right, the PG needs some relief. The twins are both going to be a lot better this year and the girl that came off the bench some for them that wore #20 seems to have the potential to knock down some shots if she is working hard right now. I'm not familiar with Allen.
    • Sequatchie’s backs are very good, will have atleast 3 backs with 2,22,21. Got a kid in from Hixson who is a very good athlete from what I heard, he played qb and wr I believe. We lost some linemen from last year, and honestly our line wasn’t that great but our qb, rb and wr found a way to score. Sophomore qb last year is a stud, kid can make plays with his feet and has a good arm. Only question for Seq is the line, defense should be pretty solid though have a lot returning. Have another tough schedule this year, with south Pitt who should more than likely win state, Marion county is always tough, they lost a lot from last year but should still make state probably, walker valley will be tough, Giles and Watertown will be tough don’t know how signal mtn will be.
    • If they score like your saying they will win it all. Their defense is going to hold whoever under 40. If I am South Gibson I full court press early and often. They are really good at it and it creates lots of transition buckets. They have to learn to score in the half court better. Most teams at the Glass House has trouble scoring consistently in the half court. It would be nice if they could get another PG to relieve Dunn from handling the ball so much. When your best guard has to bring the ball up the court 24/7 it makes it tough. When Gibson County got Akira Riding a couple of years ago it helped Micah Hart a lot and it opened stuff up for her. Allen is coming up from the 8th grade and if she hits the ground running it will help South Gibson a ton.
    • 12-11 is filled. Still need 1-15
    • I'm interested to see the defense! Lots of changes.   Offense will be better imo
