I have seen a lot of great tailbacks. Here are some of the one's I have seen.

Leroy Thompson Austin East 1983-86

Dante Hickey Cleveland 93-94

Santonio Beard Pearl Cohn 96-98

Reggie Brown Loudon 81-83

Bubba Brown Loudon 73-75

Carl Stewart Maryville 2000-02

Eric Westmoreland Marion County 92-95

Scottie Whitt Clinton 90-92

Preston Teague Halls 94-96

Gerald Riggs Red Bank 99-2001

Demetris Fields Cleveland 97-99

George Parker Alcoa 78-79

Cassen Jackson Central 2001-03

Calvin Bryant Hillsboro 2001-03

Kelcey Williams Humboldt 95-96

The best one of all was Travis Cozart of Lenoir City. All those other backs had good players around them. At Lenoir City Cozart was the whole show. If Cozart had not got in trouble at UT he would have beaten Jay Graham out. He would be playing in the NFL right now. Travis Cozart,Dante Hickey and Chad Henderson were the biggest waste of talents that I ever seen.

Everybody in 92' heard of Scotty Whitt. But come the state championship game every eye was on Gallatin's Jeremy McMurry.

Austin East's Leroy Thompson

DCA 's Scotter Edwards

Riverdale's Ralph King

Trousdale Co's T.T. Harper (very impressive for his size)

White House's Phillip Harris

Trezevant's X-man Xavier Crawford

just to name a few

Albert Davis, Alcoa. 7 years in NFL with the Eagles, played at Tennessee State after not qualifying as the first player ever actually SIGNED by UT (signed by....didn't get into school).

A freak. Ahead of his time. 6', 215 back in the mid-60's. Dominant...and this was BEFORE classifications. He ran for almost 2,500 yards with Alcoa playing Dobyns Bennett, etc.

Anyone who's been around this area for a long time will tell you he's the best RB ever from East Tennessee.

No one has mentioned Ricky Roper of Riverdale (latest 70's)

or Shaun Bohannon at Oak Ridge - my son will attest to

how good he was, my son was a kicker who had to tackle him

on a return and finally got him down after being drug for

about 10 yards - LOL!!!

Alvin Duke at Riverdale scored 40 TDs his senior year.

but for sheer numbers, you have to go with BGA's Troy Fleming and

Riverdale's Ralph King.

Maybe King’s most remarkable numbers are the 100-yard games. He has rushed for more than 100 yards in 28 of his last 29 games. The only time he didn’t was in last year’s BlueCross Bowl loss to Red Bank" (In a blizzard I may add)
