TheBoredGuy
As I read the article on the jamboree at Chester County in today's The Jackson Sun, I was amazed at how many errors there were - at least six, to give a number. Now, I understand mistakes will be made, but that many is shocking. Especially when one of the mistakes says that Riverside and Crockett did a lot of "possession swapping" in the 2nd quarter, when the reality is that Riverside held it nearly 8 minutes. I am more curious than anything as to how that happens. Jeremy Peppas, I know you visit this board quite a bit... how did so many mistakes end up in the paper? I'm sure this sounds critical, but it's actually more curiousity than criticism of the Sun.
cav-o
This really shouldn't come as a surprise to you.
CoachD33
I don't know about inaccuracy, but it did appear to me the jamboree story was written by someone who was not used to writing for newspaper. If it was a novice, that might explain the mistakes.
darkglow
the CC jamboree report looks like it was contributed to by some of the spectators or numerous reporters.. (notice that it just says "by The Jackson Sun").. i'm not really sure about this one.. but it looks like the sun just didnt have the manpower to be everywhere at once last night. and had to fill the article with what they could get.. you can't really blame them though. I think the Jackson Sun does a great job covering Highschool football.
TheBoredGuy
darkglow, I guess I had wondered if it was a manpower issue like you suggested. Still, I'm somewhat intrigued that there was no apparent check for accuracy.
CavFan88
Cavfan, I wouldn't doubt it if we knew each other. Email me here if you're interested in finding out who I am. benjam41588@hotmail.com. Are you from Crockett County?
giterdone
Should have just stayed in Jackson where they belong. Doesn't Chester County have its own paper? Should Jeremy Peppas have left the Jackson Southside game (a Jackson team ) to cover a jamboree in another county that has a local paper that is already covering it. IMO No. Jackson has enough teams in Jackson to keep them (the Jackson Sun) busy on Friday nights. This Friday I believe all 7 Jackson teams will be in action. Hope they all have stories and pictures, but I doubt they will. I heard the Sun is cutting their coverage of football due to lack of staff well they need to keep the Jackson coverage and drop the teams that get covered by their local papers. This is our local paper cover the Jackson Boys..
WashedUp
Here's an idea. Why doesn't the Jackson Sun use writers from other papers as correspondents? They could pay a small fee (ex... $50 per game) that way they could get quality coverage at all games. Example, Chester Co. plays at Trenton on Friday night. Instead of sending someone from the Jackson Sun to Trenton, get the story from a writer from the Trenton paper or the Chester Co. paper. Surely this could not be too hard. I do think the staff at the Sun is spread too thin. They do the best they can with what they have to work with. Does anyone see anything wrong with this idea that I am missing? Most of these local papers are weekly anyway.

None of them pay that well unless you're a fulltime guy with a major paper. There's no way they'd pay stringers that much. Lord knows I wish they did. Del. WashedUp
You are right, I never have worked in the "business". So, how about $20 per game. I'm just trying to throw out some suggestions to make the coverage of high school sports a little better.

I know that the Sun hires folks to go out and write a story on games, because there is a JCM parent that started covering games (not JCM`s game) last year. Seems it would be just as simple to pay a local sportswriter for their story and use that much like Newspapers use AP stories.
