MUS VS Brentwood Academy

I don't believe MBA was favored last week, and BA should not be favored next week in the Clinic Bowl. I understand how it could be viewed differently as years past would provide for such thought, but until someone proves differently, MUS was the number 2 seed for a reason and won during the regular season, and therefore, should be the favorite next week.

On a different note, this rivalry was a heated one back in the late 80s and early 90s. While I do believe the MBA-BA rivalry is greater now and the BA-MUS has lost some its punch, these two teams will be brought up on the history between these two schools. If BA and MUS were not in the same playoff bracket back then, they have met in the Clinic Bowl sooner. Therefore, this is a meeting that has been in the making for a long time, and I don't think it will disappoint.

baseballjesus - how can you possibly say that its hard to bet against a carlton flatt team playing in a championship game? i think he has a big goose egg in the win column in his last 5 tries (i think tom moore had one clinic bowl team). im taking MUS, 16-10, no MBA fan with a heart can pull for the Eagles.

Ah c'mon...wouldn't you rather say that you beat the state champs than that you lost to them twice?

Brentwood Academy and MUS have a storied history, the most recent chapter of which was written by the Owls with a 23-14 conquest earlier in the season. The Eagles and Owls have met 9 times in the postseason, but only once in the DII playoffs (a 26-0 BA win in the '01 semis). They have never met to decide the state title, but have played in the state semifinals three times ('01, '83, '80). Brentwood Academy holds a 7-2 postseason advantage and a 16-5 overall series lead.

The 10th playoff meeting between the two schools is undoubtedly the most important. In order to provide more historial perspective regarding the rivalry between the two, let's look at their meetings in DII.

The Brentwood Academy-Memphis University School series has been one of Tennessee's finest; though the Eagles hold a decisive advantage in the "Battle of the Birds," every game is intense because both teams are aware of the history of the series.

Although 43% of the games played between the two teams have taken place in the playoffs, none has ever been as important as this one. Because of the two teams' comparable talent, the 2004 Clinic Bowl may be one of the most exciting games yet between the Eagles and Owls.

More to come later this week on Brentwood Academy's record in state championship games.

I agree with everything you said itzme.....except Nick did play the first game vs. MUS on offense, however he was not going both ways, he has since taken Terrell's spot at left tackle on defense, and has greatly improved the defense. I know this isn't as big of a rivalry game as MUS-CBHS or BA-MBA but I hope everybody realizes we are going to witness arguably two of the top 5 teams in the state play for a state title so let's keep this near the top and get some discussion going.

Actually I remember Nick Forte playing both ways in the MUS vs BA game since I was playing. He played left DT quite a bit.

Forgive me for providing a little background information. I never said past results had any bearing on the upcoming game -- in fact, that's why I believe BA will reverse history and beat the MUS team that beat them earlier in the season.
