TSSAA's New "Limited Contact" Rule

It will be interesting to see how coach's questions are answered concerning what "full contact" consists of....Teams usually go shorts and helmet on Thursday, so that means 2-full contact practices per week if we're now not allowed three (3) consecutive days of "full contact" practices anymore! Full contact practices on Monday and Wednesday only? Seems crazy to me.

An over the last few years everything has become a safety concern; I agree to a certain degree on some of it, but this is going a bit overboard I think. So, now their going to basically be dictating somewhat how coaches can schedule/perform their practices...it's football, not patty cake.

So, why don't they just do away with the pads completely and play flag football; cause it seems like that what it's slowly going too.

I agree with all the disagreement above!

We're in a country that now wants the feminization of the man and make the woman something hard and fearsome.

I'm all for safety and research to limit injuries...heck, I have four boys and want em healthy.

Fact is, the libs will destroy this game as they are this country if they're allowed to continue.

I'm not a big fan of this rule. It's going to hurt some teams more than others in particular teams that like to run the football and it will hurt defenses in general. This new rule penalizes teams for being physical. I mean if you don't give enough time to practice tackling or blocking at full speed it going hurt the game. There is a big difference between teach technique and going full speed. I guess teams will just go full contact on Tuesday and Wednesday and use Monday as a film, gameplan, and walk through.

Amen! Scary to think what this country will be like for our great grandchildren!

It doesn't change anything for us.  Most teams go Freshman/JV games on Monday, varsity watches film and walks through some things, then stretch run/lift.  Tues full contact, Wed. full contact.  Thursday walk thru, Friday ballgame.  Sat. stretch rehab and run.  Then, repeat.  no big deal.

    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
