Why was DII formed?

It is really quite simple. If you recruit players from around the country you can't expect to play teams that have to follow the rules. For those who say they aren't recruiting, you are either, lying, misinformed or just plain naive. I don't want any kid who has been fortunate enough to get a "scholarship" from a private school to get in trouble or anything. It isn't their fault and I doubt any parent whose son was given that opportunity would turn it down for any reason. With that being said, I have talked to kids that have told me they couldn't be going there without help and that they were "recruited" to play sports. sometimes more than one. These kids are intelligent kids too, or these schools wouldn't want them. They are smart enough not to tell just anybody about their deal. I would never want to hurt these boys as they are great kids, but, the fact remains that these schools do recruit players. That's fine, if you play other schools like yours, but when you play schools that have to follow normal TSSAA rules it just isn't fair. That is the reason for the split and it is a very justified one.

Who's recruiting kids from around the country? :thumb:

Some of McCallie's best players in the last few years have been from other states, some of Baylor's have been from counties outside Hamilton, far enough away to be boarding students. Whether they were recruited, who knows, but that's a reason for those two schools to remain Division II. I know Baldcoach hates this example but Temple has players from another state, even if it's across the state line it's still another state. They're Division I, and I don't think that's right. I do think sometimes people know of situations where recruiting took place, but it's usually done by a parent/"friend of the program" and nothing if anything could be proven so it's not worth pursuing.

The information is there if you really want it. I am not going to start pointing fingers, like I said in my post. It is not my intention to get anyone in trouble. I just don't think privates schools should play public schools when this can and does happen.

Recruiting kids from around the country? Give me a break! Who does that? You have made way more out of this than it is. Oliver Stone makes a better case. :thumb:

The reason you don't point fingers is because you have no proof

Indian,

Are you saying that no border public school has or has had players from out of the state?

Indian,

First, you know as well as I do that the Georgia border is a whopping 1 mile from Temple and that for years kids have crossed it to go to the publics as well as the privates.

Second, your assumption that getting kids in from a broader area is an advantage is only valid if the school GOES OUT AND INTENTIONALLY gets athletes...aka recruits..., thus you are accusing Temple (subtly, but definitely) of recruiting illegally by implying they have an advantage. In so doing you are accusing all the small privates in Chatt of recruiting (since we all have some N. Ga kids). Why not just be gutsy and say it?

Third, parents can not recruit. It's impossible by definition. Neither can "friends of the program" (which is something I have never heard of...sounds like public school propaganda to me). If you think that parents are 'recruiting' when they talk to their friends about what a great school their kid attends and tell them they should look into it then you are wrong. That isn't 'recruiting', that is the privates producing such a good product that people can't help talking about it. Parents can even talk about...*said with dread* a-t-h-l-e-t-i-c-s...and it isn't recruiting. But so can your parents. And kids can come to your school free.

Finally, NONE of the coaches at ANY of the small privates that I know of have any say in who gets in. I know we don't. Neither do the parents. So even if there were a vast conspiracy by coaches and mythic "friends of the program" to recruit it wouldn't matter...the athletes would have to get in just like anyone else.

I could go into the "no money for recruitment/deficit budget" argument, or the "we are focused on the spiritual, moral, and academic lives of students, athletics is way down the list" argument, but I have gone over them again and again. Temple is clean...we are all clean. Some people just have a hard time when others have success.

I know East Ridge has been helped by N Georgia athletes, and they shouldn't have been. I did not say Temple recruits, I say having students from other states-even if just 1 mile away should put a school in another division, whether it's Temple or East Ridge. Friends of the program = booster, former player, anyone who supports the team.

There are kids at some of these schools from states other than border states. ANd the reason I don't point fingers is because I don't want to hurt any of these kids. Besides, you know as well as I do that it would be very hard to prove if it was done like most colleges do it, and don't tell me you think they are all clean too? Give ME a break!

Is your name Bill Clinton? Never admit anything even when confronted with the truth. Everyone with half sense knows the deal. It's ok, as long as you play on a level playing feild. But don't try and pretend it's fair for private tp play public schools. There is a reason for the split. More people thinks so than not or it wouldn't have happened.

First - you've tossed zero truth. You've tossed innuendo and rumor with zero proof. For that matter, others have tossed out publics doing the same things you claim the privates are doing. Did you offer an answer or response to those?

Second - it won't matter too much longer. The Supreme Court rarely hears different positions from the same series of lawsuits twice. That means that BA will win. Even if it goes before the SC again ... they will most likely win. :thumb:
