Coach Bashing

one word, "Entertainment". Trust me, i get bashed daily on and off the internet. It has caused me great heartache, but the people who bash will not meet the person they bash. Then that is a coward. Hiding behind a screan name. Many on my boards, and I laugh at them. They look so stupid, but it is what makes us who we are in this world. Men and Boys. A man stands his ground, and a boy hides. However, all have the right to speak, but if you do, be a man and back your talk as a person. Not a screen name.

message to all negative foes in region 6-4AAAA

Lets all be here for the athletes, not for our own self prestige.

Coach (?), Not all people hide. Most in Elizabethton know exactly who I am and all of those who don't need simply ask.

Then comes along the coaches who are unapproachable or those who act as if they are listening. After reading your post, maybe you fit in one of those categories?

As I said on another post, this is the worst place a coach should be on the internet whether a winner or a loser. Every coach gets bashed at one time or another and if the coach can't handle it, he/she is in the wrong business.

Here`s my moderatorized opinion

This board is meant to be fun and informative. Of course we all know that`s it`s opinionated too. Pretty much every post is someone`s opinion about a topic. I don`t know what you call bashing a coach, but I`m sure I`ve been accused of it myself. But most of the time when I have done that it`s from things that coaches have been quoted in the paper as saying. It`s just my feeling that when a coach speaks his mind in public that there is a legitimate reason to respond to his remarks. For example..when a coach stands in front of a newspaper reporter and says that it`s unfair that private schools have open zones, I have no problem in getting on here and calling him a hypocrite because there are lots of public schools that also have open zones as well. He gets his quote printed in every newspaper across the state. I think this is the perfect forum to discuss what he said. If he doesn`t like my opinion on here then he shouldn`t be quoting his to newspapers. That`s JMO on that.

There have been a lot of instances of coaches actions that have been in the paper. One I recall is a coach throwing something in the lockerroom at halftime and inadvertantly hitting a kid in the head. It was in the papers and was a newsworthy topic. I personally see no reason for folks not to express their thoughts on it. The thread was eventually closed and rightfully so because it was just the same thing over and over from both sides. There comes a time when a subject is just beat to death and it is time to move on.

But I will say Stan brings up a good point in this thread and it is something we all need to think about. We need to watch what we say. Coaches are not perfect and neither are any of us. If you have a problem with a coach of your team then just be man or woman enough to go to them and talk about it and leave it off here. If you feel strong enough about it to post it on the boards then try and at least have some sort of diplomacy to your thoughts. The same goes with players. Decisions are made all the time during a game and like I said no coach is perfect and not every play turns out like it is planned.

There are several moderators here with varying degrees of opinions. I would suggest to everyone that if you feel someone is being unjustly criticised then hit that "report" button and state your case to the moderators. Personally it doesn`t matter to me if you have a gripe with a coach, but there comes a point that you have had your say and need to drop it. But it would be much better if we just all tried to enjoy the board and practiced the Golden Rule.

Actually this is an extemely good topic for a thread BUT, I throw the 'flag' on Trott for taunting posters. Stan, you have gone overboard, just as have posters bashing coaches, with your description of posters opinions as making them out to be cowards. And true, some may be but it is part of the 'life line' of this site. Not a classy move by a so called 'moderator', do you think? Sounds as if someone got under you skin by bashing you or your favorite coach?

Anyway, a good topic of discussion.........

Will I be censored now? :D

I appreciate all of the moderators telling how to help the bad image that this board sometimes portrays. I feel guilty when I question a coach, a player or even a poster. The fact is that if people would look at this board as a way to promote h.s. sports then this would be a tremendous asset. If you have a problem with something a coach is doing by all means do something about it. However, in the middle of a tough season is not the time to do it and this surely isn't the place. Talk with the administrators of your school and see what can be done. Also, try to find out from the coach what can be done to make him/her succeed. I know that many times coaches need help but don't know where to find it and therefore become extremely defensive.

Character is always being displayed whether you like it or not. Trying to degrade someone shows what type of character you have. Trying to help a situation also shows the type of character you have. Think about who you want as your coach and then ask yourself why

This a board for discussions, not a problem solving group. Everyone's opinion should be welcome and their rights to express their opinions protected. I know that Coach has very little tolerance for things that puts him in a libelous postion and rightly so, but to try and make this a "love fest" is nonsense.

I dont understand bashing a coach, its not like they are out there tryin to lose. Most the time people bashing coaches are kids that dont play or a parent of kid who dont play.

I wouldn`t go as far as to say most, it all depends on the situation. To label anyone that criticizes or questions a coach as a coach basher is not right. Personal attacks are one thing, criticizing is not the same.

JC I agree with you on that point. However, as I stated earlier anytime that you are being overly critical of a coach during the season you are undermining the authority. I don't disagree that these boards are often times set up where people can "gripe" about the plays that are called or maybe even who plays, but that is as far as it should go. When you start discussing discipline or lack of it you begin to question a coach's ethics. If you have a coach who doesn't work or work the kids or is not doing the best that he can then changes should be made. However, sometimes a ship that looks like it is sinking is just getting ready to make a run. The Titanic sunk and people should have gotten off of it earlier but Christopher Columbus held his course until the got to dry ground. Yeah, where did that come from. haha lighten up!!! We still get to watch our children play the greatest game ever and enjoy what many people don't have the opportunity to and that is the freedom of Friday Nights

One of the things I've always found interesting on these boards, is when a team is victorious, everyone for/on the winning team talks about their great running backs, fine quarterback, out-standing defense, consistent kicker, but never much about the coach and his assistants who put the game plan together.

Yet, let those two same teams play again, with the former winning team now the loser, all everyone talks about is how bad the head coach has become.

As a moderator, it gets hard at times to determine/define what "bashing" is. I think it is kinda like pornography, I know it when I see/read it. I think the "fans" have a right to complain, take out some frustration, but to do so in a civilizied manner.

Ya'll give them coaches some props, win or lose.

Now, let's all sing "Cum Ba Ya"!!

Myth: that I am a Mod.

I have not been a moderator for over a year.

I asked Coach T to remove me from the position.

Two reasons: one, I would "remove" every thread

that bashed a coach; and two, I wanted to say what

I wanted to say in a post.

It became obvious what I thought was bashing was not

considered bashing by Coach T and other Mods. I didn't

like the temptation of being able to remove a thread, so

I removed myself from the position. These are not my

board, nor is this my website. Unless I’m asked to leave,

I will voice my opinion.

Anyone who goes on and on, thread after thread bashing a

coach is a coward. Some of these cowards are in this thread

justifying/rationalizing their yellow streaks.

If you are too thin-skinned to handle being called a

coward, then you can obviously dish it out, but not

take it.

Imagine how a coach feels who has to hear about some

crackpot posting on Coach T about him. People know who

the coach is, but they don’t know who you crackpots are.

If you are not a coward, then POST YOUR NAME the next

time you bash a coach. Prove that I am wrong.

If you want to talk to a coach, post your name and phone number,

and ask the coach to give you a call. If you don’t want to talk to

him, then what are you?

I have posted many things on Jeff Co coaching situation and frankly how poor their coach is right now. I have plenty facts, personal events and numbers to back any claim that I have against Jeff Co Head Coach. My name is Kevin Cline just like my s/n says, so I am not ashamed of what I post thats why my name on here is my name. Futhermore when a coach is bad it needs to be brought out, and I have done many things to bring it out coach t message boards are one. I have also talked to administration, AD, school board, and former chair of the school board. I know people take these threads with a grain of salt, but I simply put the truth. If anyone has a problem with the truth, then do not read these threads. With some extra thought, I think everyone should have to use real names on here not these cute little s/n. Thank you.

Kevin,

I do not agree with using the message boards to air problems but I must say that I give you props for using your name and I like the suggestion of using your real name any time that you have a negative (character or personal) comment about a coach. If I were a coach I would probably not be on these boards because I wouldn't want to know what a terrible job I was doing. Maybe more people should feel like they can talk to the coach or maybe coaches should make themselves accessable if they are not. Again, I love h.s. football and hope that everyone realizes the positives it produces when young men learn to overcome the bad things that happen to them and simply get up and try again.
