In Single A Danielle Proudfit should get a look. She is the best basketball player in single A in west tennessee. Their may be better athletes but not better all around players. She averages about 20 a game and has scored 30+ points about 6 times this year plus she has led her team from the cellar of 14A to a title contender with a 17-4 overall record!

By all around player do you mean is as good on defense as on offense? Danielle is a very talented offensive player on most nights. Sorry westtn, i have to disagree with you. Perry from trenton may be a better contender!

I would venture to say that the Class A nominees are pretty much set in stone already. All three of these young ladies have too much press coverage to not get nominated. Two were nominees last year and one all but sowed up her bid this year with her performance at the State Tournament last year. This year's Class A nominees will more than likely be:

Abby Andrews (Sr.), Collinwood

Kayla Christopher (Jr.), Oliver Springs

Laken Leonard (So.), Jackson County

Andrews, despite having lower numbers and not even being the leading scorer on her own team this season (due partially in fact to an early season injury), will probably get the nod because she was a nominee last year and she signed with MTSU. People all across the state know who she is and what she is capable of doing on any given night. Honestly, her teammate, Lesley Daniel, probably deserves the nomination more so than Abby, that is if the award is suppose to be based on just play for this year (though we all know that is not always the case).

Christopher led her team all the way to the Silver Ball last year as a sophomore and she's even better this year. Offensively, she's probably better than anyone in Class A. Her impressive stat line this year and her performance at Murfreesboro last year should be enough to get herself the nomination this season.

One can argue that no one gets more press coverage than Laken Leonard. She has been blown up in the papers since she helped lead Red Boiling Springs to the State Tournament as an eighth grader and the media onslaught has ensued due both to her play and her transfer to Jackson County. She is once again putting up stellar numbers this season for the best team in Class A. That coupled with the fact that she was a nominee last year, pretty much solidifies her a spot again this season.

The two most dominant / best AAA players in the state are juniors:

Jasmine Hassell and Jasmine James with Hassell being the best post and James being the best guard / perimeter player.

Hassell has continued to lead Wilson Central to state dominance from her freshmen year to junior year.

James has lead Bartlett from her freshman year to her current junior year with two back to back 30 game seasons of wins, Dist, Regional championships and sub-state appearances. JJ is currently averaging 26ppg, 7 rebs, 5 assits, 4 steals and will have Bartlett in the hunt for a Murfreesboro visit in March.

Both players are considered to be in the top echelon at their positions nationally.

Ferris is still the better post player and she is nationally ranked at the very top of her position with the sophomore class. I've seen the Hassell girl play and while she is a very good player, she also plays on a very good team. Kayci Ferris averages a double double and almost a triple double without ANY help! Teams put 3 people on her and she still dominates. If she was on a team that could help her just a little she could take her team to the state championship but unfortunately for her Smith Co just isn't that good anymore. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Both are good players and good kids, but I do not see their play at a Miss Basketball level, sorry. In AA, I still think Jana Roney is one of the best all around players, but her stats are down due to injuries and the fact that she has more talent around her. Her teammate, Fussell, is a great talent and having a very good year, but may be a year away. A lot of good talent in West Tennessee, but no one standing out at the level of a Miss Basketball. Poston from Milan could have been a lock if she brought her game every night, but that did not happen.

Just remember everyone, that when really good players play with each other they all appear better, more especially in a great program like JC. They may well be the best players around. I believe Jasmine James of Bartlett can play with most of what is out there. In Division II the Avant girl from Lausanne is really good when she plays and does so much from the point. Being from west TN we ought to realize we will be shouted down for putting up a name as better than some in Middle TN. Spring break is state tourney week yee haw... /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
