Wow when does wrestling season start? :popcorneater:
"Wow when does wrestling season start?" Is that not what you Ryan boy's cry during football season most every year? Why is it that the Irish win state titles in wrestling but have trouble in football with many of the same athletes? Is Pat Simpson that good of a coach?

attended the game last night and here are a few observations.....As bad a Ryan looked last night , they still had a chance to win with 5:00 min. to go....Overton stuffed the Irish on two long time consuming drives in the first half...The Bobcats played well, but ran out of gas in the 4th period....Ryan`s numbers are down this year...I counted around 55 players with Jerseys on.. very little depth.....lots of two way players....Ryan does have a kicker...Alex Pollard boomed all of his kickoffs into the end zone and easily hit two 35+ yard field goals....I understand it`s between Vanderbilt and Purdue for his services next year..........Gonna be a long season for the Irish... I say they have a shot at four wins this year.

Not a wrestling expert, but followed enough through following all things MBA to say, yes, Pat Simpson is that good a coach. Part of the issue is individual vs. team sports, and the numbers needed for a good wrestling program vs. what's needed for a good football program.

Clearly there's a disconnect here, as Ryan year in and year out has top freshman football teams. Now there's a world of difference in the move from 9th grade football and varsity, but generally if the younger team is very good, it translates to pretty good results, especially when the 9th graders are consistently one of the top teams in the city.

On the other hand, all of Ryan's other programs are top flight. I think a lot of folks scratch their head over this one.

Unfortunately, a good deal of the Irish feel it will be a long season as well.

Ryan has some very talented players on their team this year but the game starts and ends based on coaching in many different respects.

Ryan loses a lot of players with many years of experience and success after their 9th or 10th grade years and not because they are playing at a different level in high school. There are several talented players walking the halls of Ryan who are giving their hearts to sports other than football that could make a large impact on the team.

They too think it is insane to do the same old thing and expect different results and don't want to waste their time.

It is a sad situation for everyone involved.

Your statements are interesting. The current coach, Lussier has only been at Ryan for about four years. He seemed to do a good job at Oak Ridge as those folks hated to lose him. Are you sure its the coaches fault or anybody's fault, maybe Ryan just doesn't have enough quality athletes at this time to field a competitive football team in the toughest division in the state of Tennessee, maybe thats it. :thumb:

Ryan wins state titles in many more sports than wrestling, and is near the top of all schools in the state of Tennessee in total number of state championships, lets don't hang our heads too much. PS IMO, Pat Simpson is one of the best high school wrestling coaches in the country. :thumb:
