Amazing how many times Maryville always ends up having to play a team that " Accidently " left the sprinkler system on :popcorneater: . The field was pathetic and it was very lucky there wasn't a bunch of injuries .

What does Maryville do when it rains? They can't play when it's wet?

I guess the opposing team does a rain dance, & then that's the conspiracy.

Hey BJ, Can you photoshop a rain dance?

IrishBBall (or other Catholic supporters):

#1 Understand that I'm a William Blount guy, so I am not asking this question as a Maryville "homer"... consider myself a friend of Coach Meadows, I'm not anti-Catholic. Explain why--and I'm not saying you can't--both Smithey and Russo would pick Catholic to beat Maryville tonight based on this season's body of work, rankings of the teams, tradition, etc. without there being any hint of "Catholic High School football" bias on their parts? If they get it right, they both look like genius' but it would sure be interesting to know what they are basing their pick on.

I'm not trying to bash ... interested in your perspective.

GovMan, if WB is not playing your pulling for Maryville. I remember back in the early 90's we beat WB in the Christmas Classic and the next night you were on the Maryville side yelling with the Maryville faithful. I would say you are a homer once WB is out of the picture. No disrespect but I'm calling you out on this.

As for this game it should be an interesting match-up. With West being out this might hurt Maryville a little but they should still have to much for the Irish. Maryville-27 Catholic-20

DSM10, I have many connections to Maryville. I work for their kicker's dad. I teach Sunday School with one of their coaches. I'm neighbors with another of their coaches. My wife is a close friend and work associate with one of the coaches wives. I have many, many friends among the Maryville faithful. I enjoy getting a chance to go see them play when I have the opportunity. I go up and speak once a year at their pregame chapel service. But a Maryville "homer" I'll never be ... even in a substitute role for my beloved Governors. There is no team in this world that I would rather defeat in any sport (from football to bowling and everything in between) than Maryville. But it is just high school sports ... I'm able to separate my "real life" from the games. Rebelsman is right ... it is a Blount County thing. Last season, I attended several Alcoa basketball games (outside of the WB games) and I cheered for them. I will cheer for them this year as they roll toward another state crown in football.

And by the way ... you might have saw me sit on the Maryville side during a basketball game, but you've never seen me "yell" for Maryville during a game. :popcorneater:

And finally, dang good prediction on the final score ... you were real close!

The sprinkler system managed to soak the visitor's sidelines only, and they then put sand down making it a gritty sloppy mess. The same thing used to accidentally happen at Central.

Rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. Sprinklers only seem to malfunction on the visitors sidelines. :popcorneater:
