bladerunner
"Great to see Bladerunner's life still revolves around Maryville High School football, as it has for the past few years. Listen, Hitchrunner, you will never have the rings that I do. Your team will never get the rings that MHS has. It's sad that you undermine the achievements of high school athletes by attempting to turn the attention on a negative rumor, which is untrue. If you have a child, and he turns out to be a pretty good football player (doubtful with the gene pool, but anything could happen), and you want him to play for the best HS coaches in the state(nation?) and have a very good chance to win a state championship, I would move to Maryville. pepvol
I agree with you that Bearden's fans should never, ever cheer for an injured player. That is pretty low class, but can I ask you one thing?.... The Maryville student section wasn't the most classy group of fans either. I was standing along the fence closest to their student section and some of things that I was hearing from those kids, were pretty tasteless also. All in all, it was a great game to watch. Maryville should win the Gold Ball from what I saw on that field friday night. Very well coached and disciplined. GQ is truly a class act. I was truly impressed by Prevo. That kid is and will continue to have an outstanding career. Congrats to the Bearden Football team. This years Senior class goes down as the all time winningest class in school history. Do not hang your heads at all. You should feel very proud of the accomplishments over the last 4 years. Best of luck to all you guys in the future. You should feel very proud of yourselves. If it had been just the student section cheering for Bearden , I would have never said anything , kids sometimes just don't know any better .... but the loud cheer for a kid being hurt was from the entire Bearden side and you know it , it would have embarrassed me to death if the Maryville crowd ever pulled that stunt . Actually I don't know it, because I wasn't there for the 2nd half. I wasn't aware that it was the entire Bearden crowd. I left at halftime, after seeing one of the best things I've ever seen at a Football game.... Ol' Mad Mike cheering on the Red Rebels while they were walking through the fence to their locker room....it was PRICELESS!!!! I have Video of it, but can't figure out how to post it on here. It was legendary!!! That guy told me that he lives in McMinn County, but travels to all Maryville games!!! He truly is one of a kind!!! I loved it!!! Good Luck next week against Oak Ridge. It should be a great ball game, I may have to even make my treak back to Maryville to watch it. BTW, I lost a bet to one of my really good friends who went to Maryville....I gotta now buy him a case....I'm thinking a case of Natty Light

REBELRON
Maryville played great against Bearden. Devrin Young is a special talent. I know Maryville fans can brag a little bit. But!In my 30 plus years of watching Rebel football I never saw Maryville fans cheer a player getting hurt. What I saw the other night was the worst display of sportsmanship I ever saw. GovMan
That is sad, Ive always considered mhs to show great sportsmanship Lowkee, you might have misunderstood Ron. mumfordnsons24
Not to dig up an old thread but having played in the game I'll just lay out my draw for the game. When Peyton, 21, delivered that hit on your quarterback it was entirely out of frustration. If you didn't know Peyton, you couldn't comprehend his passion for the game, let alone in his last football game in his career where very little did anything go Bearden's way. I talked to a few friends out of the student section after about them cheering following the play. They said they could see it was an obvious stinger. Prevo is a monster. Not much else to say. If Devrin was running behind half of what your line is, however, it could have been a better game. Maryville's defense was nasty the whole game. Hard to get open on posts or even curls. Comparing coaches like GQ and Taylor, it's that one team thinks they can win. The other knows they can. Outside of that not much to say, Maryville played like the golden ball winners that they are. Everyone at Bearden has an immense resepct for GQ and their tradition. The rebel flags might need to be retired though...
