Maryville vs. Webb should still be a great game though.

Webb has some work to do if they're going to compete with Maryville next year. They return 8 on defense but will have to replace both DEs and one DT. They only return 4 on offense, all 3 RBs and one OG. The other 7 will all be newcomers at each position so they'll have to work hard to get ready.

The returning RBs are all very talented but with a practically brand new O-line, it could take a while for them to work together as a unit. This year's O-line was very good and had very good size with two tackles that were around 6'4" 280 and two others that were probably 225 or so. Next year's line will not have near this kind of size but you can take it to the bank that Coach Meske and the coaching staff out there will coach up whoever they have.

The returning players will also go into this game knowing that they can compete with Maryville as they performed very well against Maryville in a pre-season scrimmage.

Should be a great day for HS football in Blount County and East TN!

surprised to see Cleveland go anywhere near Alcoa. Will be intresting to see how we match up with the best, but Alcoa can name the score.

You're probably right, but that is why they still play the games. To find out. If we went with "prognosticators" there would never be upsets.

Still, Cleveland generally has athletes that can compete with anyone. Question usually is whether there are enough, or do they have big ugly's to get the job done.

This bowl is not intended to be a one and done deal. This is something that both schools are trying to establish as a fixture to open the season of Blount City Football.

That would be, I suppose the reasoning behind a decline in playing in the clinic bowl.

It is what it is, I do not see how MBA would decline this offer, But I guess they have their reasons.

Just please don't say that you weren't invited.

I sure hate to defend MBA or any private school for that matter, but what would any team from outside of East TN have to gain by taking this offer? The school would lose a home game one year and then have to use most money given to them to drive up there for the game. What sense does that make other than to please us on Coach T? I'm sure MBA or Ensworth will find a home game to play. Now, if the game was played in a neutral site that was not long travel for both schools then it might make sense, but when one team has to drive 30 minutes or less and the other has to drive 3-4 hours I don't see how it is feasable for them to agree. Just my thoughts.

Look at your national rankings, where's the only 2 teams ranked from TN at? In Blount County. Private or Public, you come in and knock one of them off then you've made a name for yourself statewide and possibly nationwide or you bring your name back into national attention. its smart football, especially if you think Alcoa/Maryville are the little schools that cant play with the big boys

I seriously doubt that MBA or Ensworth need to worry about their "name". And NO I don't think that Alcoa/Maryville can't play with the big boys. They are part of the "Big Boys" of TN football.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
