I have my opinion of who would be the best team of all time, but I want to get the board's opinion before I shoot opinion's down with my answer... lol

I guess they are just opinions if done by polls and not on the field of play, but it's hard to argue some team would be better than a national champion. 1972 Tennessee High Vikings. Has Tennessee had any other national champions?

Sure have. Oak Ridge was voted in the polls as best team in America in 1958.

Brentwood Academy has finished in the Top 10 of the National Sports News Service Top 25 final rankings three times: 1988 (#8), 1995 (#8), and 1996 (#3). Also Brentwood Academy has finished in the Top 10 of the USA Today Super 25 three times: 1988 (#8), 1995 (#6), and 1996 (#7). BA could be mentioned in this discussion for sure. One of there teams has to be in the top 3 of the best teams in history of Tennessee high school football.

BA Football has a strong history.

State championship in Class A competition after only four years of varsity play in 1974

State football championships in Class 2A in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1987, 1988, 1991

State football championship in Class 5A in 1995 and 1996

State football championship in Division II in 2006

They still don't have as many titles as Alcoa or Maryville, but as far as the best team in one year my vote would have to go to the Cleveland team of 1993. That team was LOADED & beat Brentwood Academy in the SC game...

BTW - Before there were playoffs, Maryville's 1964 team was virtually unscored on & rated one of the top teams in the nation that year as well.

Plus, cant Brentwood academy recruit players? Private school? I can't put a private school up there with public schools. Little different in my opinion.

I think the 2004 Riverdale team could possibly be on this list...

The 1994 Riverdale team was probably the best one we have had. It was loaded. The finished 9th in the USA Today Top 25

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/year-by-year-rankings.htm?loc=interstitialskip

(The 2004 team was pretty darn good, finished 15th in last USA Today poll that year)

Here is more information:

http://www.riverdalewarriors.com/football/tradition/59/93-1994-season-stats-and-news.html

QB Corey Carney had a great career at Samford.

WR/DB Fernando Bryant starred at Alabama and had a long career in the NFL

OL David Coppeans started on the offensive line for Vanderbilt

RB Alvin Duke had 37 rushing TDs and 41 total TDs his senior season and starred at Vanderbilt, including running a punt back for a touchdown against Alabama.

FB Marcus Smith may have been the best fullback to ever play at Riverdale, he was a man playing against boys.

WR/DB Gerald Griffin and TE/LB Antron Peebles went on to play at Tennessee. Peebles may have been the most imposing player Riverdale has ever had. He was amazing in high school.

QB/DB Eric Locke got a lot of playing time at QB, even though this was his freshman year.

LB Larry Floyd went on to play at TSU.

LB Kevin Litchford was great.

RB Johnta Martin was a great running back, as was RB Ron Smith

Schedule:

Hillsboro w 38-7

Cookeville w 45-0

Gallatin w 24-7

Warren County w 38-0

Christian County, Ky w 76-3

Beech w 48-0

Hendersonville w 45-14

Mt. Juliet w 53-7

Lebanon w 52-3

Oakland w 49-0

-------------------------

Chattanooga-Baylor w 49-0

Dobyns-Bennett w 28-0

Science Hill w 40-0

Oak Ridge w 21-7

Germantown w 14-10 - a great game! Duke made a great run to win it.

They averaged 41.3 pts per game and allowed 3.9 points per game. The most amazing stat? They punted twice for the entire season. 15 games - 2 punts...

They were certainly awesome. I was on the Oak Ridge team that lost to them 21-7...We were tough as nails that year and undefeated when we played Riverdale...they had just a bit more!
