milo118
I guess you might have a little of this with any system that is in place. But it seems as if even more confusion and frustration has been introduced with this current system. It has been three years now and with no real answers to the problems. Just tweaks. Even those solve one problem but create another.
tnwareagle
First of all, there was nothing whatsoever wrong with the old A, AA, AAA.... There's nothing wrong with the top four teams making playoffs and playing the other region in playoffs. Just like basketball, it could be possible that the top two teams in the state are in the same region and would have the chance to meet ONLY in the state championsip. It's like our whole society nowdays. Too many teams make playoffs. It should be a privilege and honor to be in playoffs. HOwever, in the old system, there were a few regions that only had 4 or five teams and teams would advance with 2-8 records. That happened here a few years ago. Embarrassing. I don't know the answer, but I still don't see the problem with the way the system was run in the early 80's.... We don't have all the divisions in baseball and basketball, why football? Hoganknows
If head to head isn't the number 1 tie breaker than your playoff system needs to be thrown out
milo118
If head to head isn't the number 1 tie breaker than your playoff system needs to be thrown out That has to be added if the two teams are tied with overall record.
Hoganknows
That has to be added if the two teams are tied with overall record. Well, heck common sense would tell a person that would already be in a good playoff system...head to head is always your first determination if any 2 teams are tied !!! This is a failed system that has to have the rules changed every year...shame on the TSSAA or anybody using a failed playoff system like we have now in Tennessee Edited October 29, 2011 by Hoganknows
RTigerDad
That has to be added if the two teams are tied with overall record. Head to Head is out!! Look at 6A Quad 4! Millington #2 and Brighton #3. Brighton won the H2H and both are 9-1, but yet Millington has the higher seed.
WaCoJaCo
Set up the conferences by the size of the school and take the top two out of every conference to the playoffs. We play two many playoff games all the way to December. And besides im sick of hearing these 5A schools whine about playing 6A schools. QBClubPrez
Hey Bartlett....if you'd beaten a 4-6 Cordova team or a little private school like St. Benedict....we aren't having this conversation! Much like a "BCS playoff scenerio"....who is the 32nd team (last team in) and the 33rd team (first team out) really makes no difference to the rest of the field. Sorry you feel the way you do....how ever...Bartlett really is not "playoff material" regardless if they beat the Chiefs or not.
DHSFB64
A glaring example of how the new system is broke? Bartlett. http://www.tssaa.org/schdir/regionalstandings.cfm Finished 4th in the district. (2-3, 5-5) Did not make the playoffs Craigmont finished 5th in same district. (1-4, 5-5) They met last night and Bartlett won. So Bartlett has a better district record. Won head-to-head. Craigmont is in. Bartlett is out. They lose on the 4th tie breaker. 54-52 - opponents wins... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMO This was how it would play out in Craigmonts favor by powers to be in Memphis in week 9 when East Let Craigmont win. ..plain and simple they knew if Bartlett beat Craigmont week 10 ,which they did it wouldnt matter..Craigmont is not the only Memphis team getting onto playoffs via Memphis powers to be who beat the system in All classes. To add to this most Memphis teams in playoffs have homefeild advantage..should Bartlett have won against 1-2 other teams on schedule..yes.. Is Bartlett better than Craigmont,IMO yes !! You think Im jokin but I aint Edited October 30, 2011 by DHSFB64

boyfromsi
NO. No, but it produced crappy and uncompetive playoffs until the quartfinals for most classes.
