Henry County vs Powell

This has to be one of the most remarkable posts in any thread. You are suggesting that a scout ("one of the best...in East Tennessee") will be a deciding factor in a playoff game. And you write about what Henry County can keep "quite" as far as the game plan is concerned. Are you describing a scout or a spy here? A scout would watch Henry County play and draw conclusions from that; a spy would sneak about and secretly watch practices this week. In case you are not aware of this, the age of videotaping has virtually ended legitimate scouting; HC will be able to get video of every Powell game, and vice versa. Coach Counce and his staff, as talented as any in the state, will capably analyze these and construct a game plan; I am sure Coach Lowe and his staff will do the same. This will be one factor in making a game plan. The larger factor will be what you know your team's strengths and weaknesses are. It is of small consequence to know that the opponent's LBs can't cover curl routes if you know your QB can't throw curls.. The best team to scout is always your own. Will there be some surprise formations and new plays? Probably. But both these teams are going to "dance with who brung them," as they say.

Mobley will be Henry County's target, and Powell will rely on him. Most teams do not even scout any longer; their coaches just exchange game tapes. High school football is less about espionage tnan it is about blocking and teackling.

You’re entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to my post. Take it for what it is worth. I am not going to explain myself with examples. Not sure why you would respond to this post. It is only my opinion and experierence with certain situations that have occurred in the past (last year and this year) that are true. I have no reason to lie. No one has to get all excited about a post that is merly making a statement of my individual experience. That is what coacht is for after all. Since this has been experienced and has happened that will tell me that you do not know as much as you think you do about scouting. But choose to believe that Powell has a great scout or not. It neither here nor there. This would only tell me that it has worried someone for some reason. Keep one thing in mind we have have played Powell 4 times in two year i think i might know a little bit about Powell.

Yea Sweet that's it! This scout even admitted it and no one took him seriously then boom he predicted the score almost perfect; time after time. He gave the details of what AC were practicing daily and made the comments. Stated he did not like what AC play calling was attempting he considered..borderline illegal; all of this on sidelines talking to people that did not know who he was. And even stated he gets paid 6$ figure for doing this for certain High Schools.......This one just so happened to be the Powell AC games. I Told my nephew and he could see game plan was blown at first half. Then next playoff game all practice were closed and gates locked down. AC won24-21 AC was driving again as time ran out.. So again just my experience. If I were the coaching staff I would at least consider this probability. I have no dog in this fight. Just an outsider giving inside details. Just call me the spy/scout buster! LOL Ha Ha

JIP, do you wear a tin foil hat everywhere you go?

Who is this mysterious scout you speak of? Nobody associated with the Powell program seems to know anything about him.

And you say that officials favor Powell? You've got to be kidding me. Powell has been one of the most penalized teams in the Knoxville area this year, yet they are still in the Blue Cross Bowl. If you believe that the officials have favored Powell this year, then you are absolutely clueless.

You really need to let it go. Your obsession is not healthy.

And on the game, both teams do a lot of the same things, and do them very well. I look for a very competitive and very intense football game as one would expect in a championship game between 2 14-0 and very solid football teams.

Ok guys I will get together the links send you the source and links that detail this information. You guys must be from state of Missouri, show me state.

Henry Country trust me! I have no reason to lie. gee guys so what about a scout. This has really hurt me. Don't make me look bad it hurts my feeling when I know I am right. But at least you will see where I am coming from. I just feel the public should know all the details of how Powell operates and make an informed decision. But hey I got my point across to Henry County they can take it or leave it. Made my score guess now its time to see what HC has. Yes of course I am for HC. But HC if they read the paper will figure that one out why most AC fans are. But not getting into that.... Crack pot LOL Anyone can tell you I am the most honest person you will ever meet.

Still holding HC to a 35-21 thumping!

You know?.......When Powell was beating A.C. 34-0 in the 1st quarter this year at A.C......I was sitting up in the stands saying to myself....."I have GOT to start paying my spy more money! He is doing a heck of a job! Because it couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that Powell had big, athletic guys flying all over the field, and A.C. was little and slow". :roflol:

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
