Do you even know what these numbers represent? I'll give a hint - growth.

Those grades are an analysis, by an independent group, of individual schools against the rest of the schools in the state.

A school’s score is based on the three-year value-added gains in reading/language arts and math.

TVAAS measures achievement gain in a way that permits schools to be compared regardless of the makeup of their student body. Instead of ranking schools by how their students simply score on a standardized test, the accountability system provides information about how schools are doing in helping each child make academic gains each year.

A zero equals one year’s growth, and it’s equal to the state’s minimum growth standard. A positive 2.0 is considered “exceeding expected growth,†and the state awards an A.

Let me try to explain it to you this way, It's not the numbers that you presented - it's HOW they are presented. When a school like Fort Craig has been at the very top of any such ranking for as long as they have been there is almost no where to go but down. Especially in a year where there is so much transition. The context of those numbers are put out there in a vague way to back up the "supposed" way that closing Fort Craig is not a bad thing. That is how people validate the justification to close it. The reality is that if you were to check to see who has led the city schools for years it is Fort Craig. A good example is seeing these "rankings" as bad for a school that has been on top versus a school that was at the bottom (John Sevier). For comparison, John Sevier had nowhere to go but up while FC would have been hard pressed to improve their outstanding performance in trying circumstances.

It doesn't matter in any way that Maryville High School is getting a new field but don't try to point out that FC was failing with their students to justify the point. That premise is false.

I know that you will never accept it as I am sure you have a child or family member that is/was involved in some way, however if you poll educators at MIS they will tell you that kids from FC are behind and test lower than the other 3 schools and also that kids from JS are actually ahead of SH and FES.

Can't we just get along? Some folks don't quite understand all of the numbers - and believe me - frydaddy understands - it's his job to understand. I would advise backing off him on this subject, but do what you want. BTW, his ties are actually to another school.

But the fort craigers are only one group. Evidently, we can take away their umbrellas and forget about them. The folks against all the governent spending won't see this as a role of government - unless their kid plays sports. :roflol: Maybe we are using some of the obama bucks (our tax $) to pay for it - if so, I'd like to have mine back. I would like to see it privately funded, and not just a promise to pay it back. I saw the baseball team practicing at SS last night. Once they wake up and realize turf is going in and there is a new gym floor for the basketball guys, they may even realize why murvil baseball is the laughing stock of east tn for not having a field. Or maybe they won't wake up. :popcorneater:

Looks like that 20$ I donated for the turf really payed off. Thank goodness!!

I'll match your $20 pledge c'reb - with one condition...Can we make sure our $40 is used to buy the paint for the big, permanent rebel flag in the middle of the field. It will look awesome! :thumb: Seriously, I can't wait to see it.

Now your talking the important stuff. From the 40 yard line to the 40 yard line. If you and C-Reb can get manage to get that flag put on the field, just go ahead and count one more kid on the roster, I couldn't stay away from that.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
    • I heard Alabama was at Antioch practice and Colorado has offered QB. Hoping the Bears have a great year.
