South Pittsburg against Whitwell, Reclassification and Consolidation

Gordonsville has almost their entire team back from last season. It will be a tough matchup for SP. That much is certain.

the places I honestly thought we would have trouble replacing was the offensive line. Losing the starting center of 3 years. The big right tackle but we are on pace to smash all kinds of rushing records so I'd say they have been replace pretty well. We might not be ad strong on D. But you can't tell me that Gordonsville is as potent on offense as Signal. So tell me where they are so heads and shoulders above the Pirates. Would Gordonsville best signal? Smith County are they SD strong as everyone think. Edited by MrLegit

It took less than two pages for all of the trash talking with Whitwell to stop... Now, you guys are waaaayyyyy off topic... Get back on track or I'll lock this one.. If you want to talk SP/Signal, there is still a thread going for that... If you want to talk SP/Gordonsville, start a new thread... This is SP/Whitwell, so that the SP fans can talk to each other since no one in Whitwell is on CoachT...

You obviously don't know much about the geography of the county and comprehend the bus routes that would be needed for Marion County schools. They would have to run from Gord Neck, to The Pocket, Hog Jaw Valley, Griffith's Creek, Suck Creek, Orme, White Side, Hale Town, Mullens Cove, Condra's Switch.

Then the student teacher ratios would need to be maintained anyway and what these Mega Schools do is allow this to be more easily violated. As far as the B.S. talking points about a mega consolidated school do better athletically and academically very often fails to pan out. You forget that Sissy Mtn was a consolidation but a new school.

Lastly, there would always be issues with who coached what and who's kids played. Jasper Daddy ball would be in a constant up roar.

Surely a man with as much schooling as you have, what is it, 5 degrees, tell us again please, don't believe what you just typed. There would be no issues with the bus routes, as they would stay the same. You would need the same amount of buses and the only thing that would change is that the kids would have to get up 10 minutes earlier, or the time that it takes to get from their current school to the new school location.

Give some examples of this idea not panning out. I know one that has worked really well and that is north jackson. In my opinion, the bigger school better prepares you for college life, not only because of more choices, but with a bigger student body it makes you more suited for college, plus there would be more classes and more sports available.

Sure there would be parents from all three areas upset that little johnny doesn't get to play, but if they aren't good enough to play on the football team maybe they can find something else to participate in. I don't know whether it will ever happen or not, but this should have been done 15-20 years ago for the betterment of all the communities. In general, kids are going to get what they want out of school, but with a consolidated school one can't deny that there would be more oppourtunities afforded to the kids and that's what we should all be worried about.

I love the small school atmosphere & community spirit but some of your points are valid. I attended a large high school my freshman year, then we moved & I went to a small school & loved it but did not get the classes I could have at the larger one. With that said, go P! Get ahead early on Whitwell & rest the starters in the second half if you can & let the younger guys play some! It is absolutely critical that our starters stay healthy till the end if we are to have a chance but the season has just begun & injuries are a part of any season. No one feels sorry for you if we are injured. Look how banged up we were last year - Ii believe more so than any season in the past 7 years that I have been in SP. It happens to any time at any given time. A part of contact sports.

Don't try to use logic and reason with these fellers. They think like women. roflolk.gif

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
