Beech Bucs

It will be interesting to see how the BHS O line looks like this year ......

They had a good line last year, but Hurd made it look even better than it was many times. I'm not taking anything away from that unit, but I can't count how many times I saw Hurd run through a tiny crease and then break 4 or 5 tackles. And that's just from the 3 times I watched them play. I can all but assure you he will at least make his offensive line look decent. (unless they are just absolutely dreadful, which is doubtful at the 5A level).

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to seeing how our front 7 stacks up against him in Week 1. We bring back some very solid down linemen and an excellent group of linebackers. Should be fun.

Lol...^This^ comes up every time somebody starts winning.

I'm just happy we made it through 2011 without somebody accusing us of it. So, who did Beech recruit?

It sure does. Now, in some cases it is a valid argument, but I remember everybody used to accuse Oak Ridge of recruiting back through the 70's 80's 90's. Funny thing is i played with every kid from Boys Club to HS that were on the teams when i was in HS in the mid 90's. More times than not it's just other teams' fans being jealous.

Our kids have a W marked already on the schedule. Hurd is getting better.

I'm glad to hear this. Hurd is great, but you guys have gone from the hunter to the hunted. I can promise you will get the very best shot that we have and on that night the W will be in doubt. So go ahead and overlook us starting now, you will pay for it. Good luck to you guys

Nonsense. We stand no chance. They already have a W marked on the schedule.

i enjoy your posts. im curious to know what your general opinion is of your game against beech in 2013. i realize yall are expected to have a very good team, but are you confident against a legitimate division 1 talent such as hurd?

I'm confident that we will be much better prepared. Whether that translates to a victory or not remains to be seen.

We had a very young and inexperienced football team when we played them last year. With the vast majority of our defense coming back (a defense that vividly remembers Jalen Hurd), I find the notion of him breaking any sort of record against us to be a stretch at best and completely absurd at worst.

Our offense also returns many familiar faces from a team that put up 41 points against Beech last year. Unless their defense has greatly improved (which is not an easy assumption given all that they lose to graduation), then it should be hard for any Henry County fan to label the Beech game as an automatic loss, regardless of the fact that it will be at their place.

As for Jalen Hurd, the kid is phenomenal, and there is simply no denying that. However, we are no strangers to meeting up with (and defeating) elite talent. Two short years ago, we defeated a Memphis Ridgeway team in the state quarterfinals that had not one, but two future SEC players on its offense, and several other division 1 players. We proceeded to defeat the (then) state's single season leading rusher in the state championship game just two weeks later.

Many would likely shy away from the level of competition, but I look forward to our meeting with Beech in week 1. I personally think it will be one heck of a game.

    • Exactly right OR2. I say it was our sick kicker’s fault! In fairness, the ‘82 f’n hairtage team was good. The ‘83 team played ALOT of sophs.
    • I coach 3 sports in HS and can tell you that basketball is NOT the most time consuming. I'm not saying it doesn't take a lot of time but between basketball, baseball and football it isn't the most time consuming.
    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
