Greenback at Rockwood

I missed the pick. I'm here to eat my crow. I thought Greenback was head and shoulders the team in 1A. What happened? Is Rockwood just that good?

I don't think there is a clear cut favorite in 1a. Alot of parity. I'd say as many as 7 teams has a shot. Greenback is still one of um. I'm sure they lost to a pretty solid Rockwood team.

It's Union City, Nashville Christian, and South Pittsburgh that play on a different level than the rest of 1A. I've been saying for a long time Greenback is a good but not elite team. Thanks to the Tigers for validating my position.

How is it you put NCS in the same sentence as SP let alone on the same level? I'm not trying to be a jerk but i mean really!

Brother, you're a usual class act on here and I appreciate that! I have to say though, from watching that play multiple times on the replay that in a non biased stand point I really think it was a pick. That's just my two cents worth but the possession was with RW till the Greenback player latched on after they landed on the ground.

I thought the same thing a pick, but after the call was made the photographer had still shots of every part of it and they both had possesion all the way to the ground.Great play by both kids but they did make the right call.Rockwood came out ready and Greenback came out flat as a pancake in the first.Rockwood is a solid team threw the ball well also.Greenback still has s little fight left in them, they could have folded but they kept on fighting.Go back to work boys!

What has South Pittsburgh done THIS YEAR that puts them above NCS. NCS only loss was an after the fact forfeit to a now  undefeated 3A school which they shellacked 55-24. The forfeit only because a 3rd stringer got to play the last 3 plays of the game.

SP hasn't done anything lately. They aren't where they need to be. Hopefully they will get there.

Never mind, off topic so I'll stop. Best of luck to uNCS this season.

I think on the second picture of the slideshow you can see the Rockwood player with both hands on the ball and the Greenback player has his hands on Rockwood players hands, but not on the football. These two photos of the pick were courtesy of Sammie Dunlap. The second pic it also appears that the Greenback player only has one hand on the ball while the Rockwood kid has both.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
