I would be shocked if Boyd and East Ridge don't easily win their districts and get to the Region 3 final, which of course would put them both into Sectional games against Region 4.  Region 4 is much more complicated (and competitive) with Signal, CCS, ND, Murfreesboro Central Magnet and Merrol Hyde.  Either CCS or ND will not be advancing to the Region 4 tournament since they have to play each other in a district semi for what might be the first time ever.

Looks to me like any one of these 7 teams could make it to State and, if they played their best, would be competitive against any A-AA team out there, including the mighty CAK.  I am still waiting on the Irish to play their best for 80 minutes, hopefully it will happen next week.

Well consider me shocked.  CSAS beats Boyd 1-0.  I obviously did not give CSAS enough credit.  The region 3 semi between East Ridge and Boyd should be a heck of a game.

Yup Boyd won the previous meeting against East Ridge. 2-0.  Hopefully they come out fired up and ready to go Tuesday.

This stoppage time thing is about as clear as the ol' steel tub after Mountain Troll takes his weekly bath on the front porch.

Sounds to me like this is just a semantics thing.  The ref does stop his clock in high school soccer for certain events, which results in game times (from kick-off to end of regulation) that are longer than 80 minutes.  Call it what you want, but I am going to continue to refer to the period of time between when the timer on my watch goes off and the ref blows his whistle as "stoppage time".  Just seems like a good name for it.

Well, of course it is a semantics thing. But the fact remains there is no stoppage time in high school soccer. The real issue is that our area (SE TN) has chosen not have official scoreboard clock operators. Imagine if there were no clock operators for football games. One of the refs would keep the time on the field. He would stop the clock at incompletions, change of possession, etc. You, the fan in the stands, could try to keep in synch by stopping your own watch. Would you call the time beyond 12 minutes "stoppage time"? That seems silly.

Also, in a high quality USSF soccer match, the center wears two watches. One watch does not stop. A second watch is used to track added time. In a really high quality soccer match, the 4th official tracks the added time and tells the center how much time to add. If you ever get a chance to go to a European soccer match, try to find a stadium clock. They don't exist.

With all this wireless crap they got these days, seems like somebody would develop an electronic watch/timer device for sports officials that could sync to a scoreboard clock. :ugeek:

Oh Troll, there you go trying to use common sense and technology to "Americanize" soccer.  You should be ashamed.  Next you will want to call the "pitch" a "field" or call a “fixture†a “scheduleâ€.

By the way Troll you need to change your footer.  The Signal Mtn volleyball team never won an A-AA State Championship because there was no such classification in volleyball in 2010.  They did however win an A Championship in 2010.

Anyone who has watched Merrol Hyde play care to give some insight as to how they play?  They'll be at Signal Tues. night.

#13 in the middle is a beast. A man among boys.

Defensively, the team isn't particularly strong. They can be attacked down the flanks. And they lost their starting keeper a couple of games/weeks ago.

Offensively, they don't build the attack. Instead, they want to attack 1 v 1. They are dangerous on set pieces though.
