Alcoa @ Maryville

About Brant Mitchell. During halftime I was walking around the stadium to go back to my seat. While I was walking back I walked beside the Webb team walking torward the field. I saw Brant Mitchell. The dude looks like a grown man. He looked angry. Sure wished UT would have taken him.

About the Alcoa game. Maryville needs to play well if they are going to win. It looks like Alcoa has another great team. This will be by far the most physical team Maryville sees in the regular season. Jaquez Tyson is a stud runner. OLine is big and physical. Looks like Alcoa has big tall receivers and an athletic QB. Defensively Alcoa looks strong. This will be a man's football game.

I believe this is the strongest Maryville team I have seen when it comes to the weight room. I saw in the program I buy at the game where over 20 kids could bench 300lbs or more. I saw a bunch of them that could squat over 500lbs. 3 of Maryvile players Dylan Jackson,Ritchie Koons and Jaylen Burgess are approaching 400lbs on the bench.

Maryville had 9 first team suspended for 4 games. Yes the went 0-4, but then 11-0. Alcoa won due to an interception by defensive back named Harris I believe. He picked of  the pass and ran it back for a TD giving Alcoa the win.

Can't let this go.  This post is no where close.  No players were suspended for games 2, 3, 4.  Touchdowns by Alcoa were by Sankey and Starks.  Only two players were "suspended" on Maryville's squad by the coach.  One more did not play, but he was not suspended by the coach.

    • I grew up watching Greene Devil Football since I could walk and still close with a lot of the coaches so should know my history pretty well lol.  Everything worked out the way it should have but firmly believe McCurry would have won some State Title if he wouldn't been let go (Greeneville still runs the same D he brought here and he let Ballard run the O and stayed out of it when it came to calling plays.  Greeneville was put out in the Semi's McCurry's last year against Maryville and the next year Greeneville stayed in 4a and was State Runner up playing were they were placed for the first time by the TSSAA.). It was definitely a McCurry and Ballard show that turned everything around along with the Community buying in and revamping the weight room and field house. Since Ballard got promoted to HC every Coach after him has been within the Greeneville Coaching staff because your right, they know what it takes to win a state championship.  Ballard was a master mine on O and what i think Greeneville has lacked since he left and let some Championships or making it to the Championship slip away over the last few years
    • Sounds like you know your area history well. Going back and looking the records were better than I thought but mostly still beating Upper East TN schools. Ballard sounds like he came/was promoted at the right time.    I do think it’s no coincidence that them keeping the HCs as guys who were former guys on the staff. Too many times schools want a “state championship” leveled coach from the outside but they don’t know the landscape. Promoting from within will help with less turnover and keep the program consistent.
    • You’re a fool if you think I have more than one account
    • Looking back they had better records than I recalled against upper East TN.  But they still took off once ballard got there. And beating other good programs
