Enrollments

All that is true but what do they tell a school that has 7 district opponents all 2 hours+ away, since the teams.are.so spread out with a.small number in the class.

Indian, I think you are old school like me. I can remember traveling 2 plus hours to games. Yes, it's a strain but at the most it only happens 5 times a year. If a team is lucky then a couple of more times if they make playoff's. The TSSAA does not worry about travel during the playoff's. Heck they have teams in the privates traveling from East Tn to West Tn for regular season games now.

I sort of agree, but whatever number used as a cutoff would involve debate, politics, and favoritism among those in power to decide. The number you used was 350...how would your opinion change if Lake Co. turned in an enrollment of 351, and had to hypothetically compete against schools with over twice their students?

If LC had 351 then LC would be 2-A .It's that simple. Do I like it no but at least it's clear cut.

It just seems the TSSAA takes care of the larger schools and dumps on the smaller ones and I guess somebody has to be dumped on. It just seems the powers that be could look at this and straighten it out but when you have inmates running the asylum that's what you get. For the record I love playing Union City because when LC beats them or plays close then I know we can compete with and single A team. This is not about UC, its about the killing of small town football.

Enrollment numbers are totaled, schools listed accordingly, then broken down into equal divisions (previous system). New system works the same with the exception of the 32 largest in their own division. Exceptions are schools allowed to play up if they wish in any division except the "super 32"...if a smaller school wishes to play up to this class one of the 32 has to agree to drop. I agree that the premise of the super 32 all making the playoff is a joke. Privates have had the option of DI or DII, provided that they comply with regulations, and I assume that will remain the same. Reclassification period has been four years apart (with some exceptions for rapid growth), but with the recent change in policy it has been only two years since the last one.

Isn't Friday Sept 19 the deadline for school enrollment numbers?

There's a better solution out there using a hybrid system...wider percentages between larger classifications, while using enrollment numbers as they do now. The smaller the school, the smaller differential between the smallest and largest in the class. It would take some time to genuinely examine the most fair split numbers and percentage increases, but could be done if the goal were to be the proverbial "level playing field" for all involved.

Trader, I agree with everything you just said.

If the private schools continue to play in Division I they should open it up for the Ensworths and Baylors, letting them play in the largest Division I class. The largest public schools shouldn't get to avoid such competition when the small and medium size schools have to play them. (And the financial aid doesnt seem to be an issue, or is at least something that can be overcome. Look at teams like Goodpasture, CAK, CPA in some years).

Would agree totally!! Large schools could care less about this since they are the ones that started this whole mess when they couldn't beat Brentwood Academy. Thanks Gary Rankin.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
