I'm hearing they would like to have Mathis since he is already on staff. If Mathis wants to stay in the assistant role there is another name I keep hearing that would bring them some real stability long term, but makes me sick to think about going to the rivals. Marion County just needs to get another coach to move in and maybe one that will stay awhile. I'm sure they will get a good one. Plenty of good coaches around the state.

yep as much as I would hate to see him in those colors, but like RR, you have to think of your family... Great coach, great dad, great leader.

Hey guys, I don't have a ton of sources but the ones I have are usually spot on. I was told today one candidate is dragging his feet. Just not sure if he wants it however attention is turning to another candidate that has risen quickly. I'm told Marion isn't settling and willing to keep spending the money necessary to get their guy especially if it's someone viewed that will invest in the program for the long haul. I know SP people are laughing at the loss of Ross but they would hate for one of their own to come in and the invade their waters.

Old Pirate ain't got a clue about coach Mathis but....is or would he be a long term answer or simply an attempt to slow the bleeding? Obviously he brought in by the SOS and he too was left high & dry, so it seems............? Is he going to tread.........water and wait...........on a position to open up with MCCallie or be a real long term coach? OP jest wondering, hopefully he is learning a lesson also...

this may be more than Mountain Social Club talk. I heard there is a real effort to attract WS. A proven defensive coach and if Mathis stays with offense they would not miss a beat. I personally would hate to see it but there is a lot of talk even here in the valley.

    • Groves got the ball over 20+ times. His son arguably played the best for East in that game. 3rd and long multiple times and he came up big to continue a couple drives. Please shut up for the 3rd year in a row
    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
