What in the name of ???? has that got to do with these current  coaches the best ever in metro ?  The coaches in metro currently that have winning teams ( which are few) have players from all of Metro Nashville (all star rosters ), not any are recruiting, heaven forbid,  and the others are playing with what is left. So if any set of coaches have an advantage it is these today. Just my opinion, not a coach in metro today could hang with the coaches of years past. The current coaches in metro that have my respect and doing great jobs are the coaches in schools that are struggling but coach their butts off so kids can have a team.

When people speak of the MNPS teams of the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s you still had schools that were supported by the local communities.  With consolidation many of the MNPS were closed and the boundaries were changed which in turn caused much of the community support to decline.  When football and athletics are important to the community you have more people pulling on the same end of the rope and that makes it much easier to be successful.  The MNPS teams from the late 90’s up until now have not had to play the big bad private school teams to win a state championship like their predecessors.

You got 6 teams in metro above 500. CR,EN,OV,Mcg,Pc,HL. My question is what school is struggling to get kids? Heck whites creek even has a full freshman team. You might want to get out the house and get to some games.

Above 500 beating teams with very few wins. nothing impressive about any wins your 6 teams have.  metro is pitiful. instead of me getting out you need to check the quality wins you are bragging about because there are none. Also having numbers of players does not mean quality players.

I totally agree with you!  Today it’s all about finding the best athletes within Davidson County and beyond and then just rolling the ball out and hoping to win.  I would like to know how many MNPS football programs are practicing on Saturday mornings after a Friday night game only to be followed by watching film on Sunday afternoon?

Zero I would say

East is unbeaten and has beaten Father Ryan, Stewarts Creek and Independence. Cane Ridge beat CPA. Pearl seems to have it rolling and has beaten MBA 2 out of the last 3 times they have played. Overton is a ton better since Broome got there. McGavock is much improved. Metro has some good teams and some not so good teams. It’s ok to give credit to the schools and coaches winning and not paint with such a wide brush.

Fan I would strongly disagree with Tate's comment. Look at how strong the coaches were in the 80s and 90s. Not a dig at the current coaches, but no way they stack up against the best. I remember when if you won your distrct/region in metro you had a chance at a championship. Almost every team in metro has had at least some level of success in the 90s. Even Glencliff and Hillwood had success. HL used to be tough, WC, etc. Take out the current top 3 in metro, who even has a chance to be better than average.

I feel you lol. I’m not that old but I still hear all the stories from back in the day. I could only image metro without the charters,Privates and new boarder county schools. I think Tate was talking about to date with the current structure. we’re already came to the conclusion that metro/MiddleTN is seeing some of the greatest talent year in and out that it’s ever seen.

You been around a long time and from you posts you really only like one coach. So what decade would you say had the best metro coaches?

Father Ryan is not a good team and has not been a good team for many years

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
