Alcoa will have to scratch and claw and hope Maryville makes some mistakes just for the game to competitive. I have been watching this game for 40 years or so and can only think of two times when Alcoa won in dominating fashion and they were against not the best Maryville teams. There have been a few close Alcoa wins, even more close Maryville wins, and a bunch of Maryville blowouts.

 

It's a great game for the community but it really boils down to the fact that the best 6A program in the state is going to beat the best 3A program in the state way more often than not. I could be wrong but I expect MHS to win in pretty convincing fashion.

A question to my Maryville peeps. There's no right or wrong answer, just your opinions. Watching the Maryville vs Fulton game i spotted at least 4 d-1 talent on the rebels. Quarles spreads the wealth, he isn't about showboating 42-0 at halftime then pull the starters. Fulton would put 70 on u if they can. Hanging up 70 exposes your playbook more, and more injury likely to happen. But we live in the world of analytics, it's all about numbers. Leaving your starters in pads up your stats, make you look better on film. For Maryville to be so dominant and not alot of offers from d-1 schools. So my question is it all about Quarles at Maryville, yes you guys will win more titles, Quarles salary, resume would be intact, but for the athletes that could be d-1, that will get overlook cause the only play until halftime, so, they don't have the stats as another, then he's going to a juco school having to pay, missing out on a scholarship. While the Quarles legacy lives on, would you really want your kids at Maryville.

 

Its not about 1 or 2 players. It is about team. It didn't hurt Dylan Jackson or Jay Guilermo.

This isn't the 50's where no one knows about players unless they go see them , and believe me , a College Coach is more impressed by someone playing on a team like Maryville , where they know they're getting great Coaching , than on a bad team with suspect coaching .... even if that means their Stats might not be as impressive .

I see the good in both ways, it's how you personally feel. A receiver at Fulton for his career might have 5,100 receiving yards for his career. The same equal talent receiver at Maryville would have 3,100. A coach comes from auburn who do you think he's more impress with. An it is all about the team. But playing that team stuff will get you from d-1 to a junior college. So maybe a chance in the nfl, or working a 9 to 5 so, when does it stop being about the team an start being about myself and my family. It seems not playing at Maryville is the route to go.

It seems wishful thinking is what you do. At Maryville its about more then just football , its about life. I have seen my oldest face obstacles and overcome them because of his time at MHS and I have seen the opposite with some that didnt play there. You see its not always about the numbers. Ive seen those players from other schools and their high #s get offered D1 and never even get to work outs let alone see the field dur to grades or just their own me me me mentality. MARYVILLE is an experience that many college players never even have relatively speaking.

So potential d1 players should play at schools where they can put up big numbers. I think there is a lot of truth in that. Coaches about everywhere and in about every sport lecture about the "team". It turns into what makes the team look good or what makes the coaches look good. For example, in ET basketball coaches will put the tallest player down low even when he is only 6'4". That kid can't play down low of n a d1 program. The coach should work on dribbling skills for that kid and let him play SG or SF. Come to think of it, my 200 lb 6th grader is more like a fullback than a tackle. I'm going to talk to those guys.
