The real D1's are only interested in your 40 time and your a certain size, the generic D1's get the kids that were passed over by the real D1's but are still good football players and a lot of those kids prove the scouts wrong in time and make it to the pros.

But that shouldn't take away from the accomplishment of those kids just because a high profile D1 school didn't sign them. I'd have given anything to get a scholarship from a UTC or Furman. It's nothing to sluff at. I bet a ton of kids whose careers were ended this year would feel very blessed to go to a school like that as RW said.

You know what's funny about that whole situation is that Douglas, Burnett and Jackson's families moved here from Knoxville because they wanted exposure for their kids and not get stuck on a losing team over there no one would see. Gullermo's family was transfered here but Coach Brooks at Clemson who was recruiting Jay told them to send jay to Maryville. Robinette's dad was a principal out at Heritage Middle and they let him go over sending his kid to Maryville because he didn't want him in that mess out there. Only Stewart and Thompson were original Maryville players.

Not 100% correct

Stewart-Auburn, Robinette-Vanderbilt, Douglas-Tennessee and Alabama, Burnett-Colorado briefly, Jackson -Stanford, Thompson-South Carolina briefly. Care to name me those other fourteen and I'm not talking about any of the military academy's.

D1 refers to any college team in the FBS or FCS, not only the SEC and big 10.

Stewart- auburn

Thompson- SC

Brandon waters- TTU

Gary tucker- MTSU

Shiver- UT Martin

Maples- UT

Tank baker- furman

Douglas- UT

Brunette- MTSU

Robinette- vandy

Jay Guillermo- Clemson

Prevo- estu

Jackson- Stanford

Koons- TTU

Blackmon will go D1

Ok so I got 15, and I said I was probably off by a few, but it looks like a missed a few. The point is maryville has plenty of talent. No other school in the area can make a similar claim as far as D1 talent. I've just never understood why people claim they don't have it?

I am so sorry I made the comment (which by the way didn't have a darn thing to do with the talent at Maryville!!) I was talking about our coaching staff!!

    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
