Waverly has a great offense. Someone like Union City wouldn't be a good matchup. Especially if they got a few turnovers. Waverly reminds me a lot of our 2009 SP team. Ultra talented on offense, but defense was just average. It caught up to us in Cookeville and we left with a silver ball. The only difference now is that Waverly might have to play them in the semifinals.

We scored too quickly in that game.

Big difference...this year Union City's defense is giving up more ppg than Waverly. Their offense vs. the Wavo defense would be hard to stop...Waverly's 'O vs. UC's D is a mismatch. Union City has played three teams this year with dynamic and balanced offenses in Murray Ky, Adamsville, and McKenzie...Waverly should produce similar results.

So you're saying this years Union City team isn't like those teams we saw in 2009,2013,2014? What has happened to them. Didn't they return almost every starter from 2016?

Those teams were better defensively...they're not bad on that side of the ball this year, but are giving up more points than in years past.

Waverly is a team that has rose from the ashes. Up until the last few seasons I never heard anything about Waverly. Did they just get an influx of talent or have they always had a lot of  talent at Waverly and just not coached up?

talent pool has been there.  Coach McConnell has built this program from ground zero.

Not trying to ruffle feathers, but this is the best group of players that Waverly has had since the 90's when Coach Hampton was beaten by Brentwood Acad. They have NEVER had a better running back and probably QB then they have now. I mean this in a positive way because there are plenty of teams that have players but underachieve because of poor coaching. Waverly is not that team.

not true!  the talent has been there off and on.  they just needed a coach like mcconnell.  and the team you are referring to was the 87 team that got put out in the semis by BA

I think a team like Adamsville would be a good game for Waverly they remind me of Fairview. Waverlys defense has got better guys it just took time for the guys to get moved around and to settle in on their positions. I feel like we will make another good run in the playoffs but ultimately it's up to the game planning and the players. One game at a time!
