I see what you're saying, but some things have to be taken into account such as ratio of students, and socioeconomics. If the ratio is 4:1 or 3:1, girl to boy, and the 60% of those students are on free and reduced lunch, meaning they are either toeing the poverty line or below. Then fielding a 60-70 man roster is gonna be a tough task, and for a lot of schools they suffer from those very issues. Not saying Mcminn Central does, but I know for a fact some 6A's do.

Check the statistics on some of the schools in this area. Meigs has a high of students on free or reduced lunch and has fielded 60+ players each of the last 3 years DESPITE being 1/3 the size of a 6A school. McMinn County has a high f&r number for a 6A school and has great numbers every year. If kids, rich, poor, or otherwise, want to play football, then they will play. If the coaches, administration, culture, or community make it too difficult or not a priority, then you'll have a 30 man roster at a 6A school.

Really have no answer to why kids won't play.  Pineknot played with a group that stayed together when we started them in little league at the age of 4.  There are athletes in the halls that just aren't interested in playing.  Dalton plays because he loves the game and his teammates.  I really think you will see more than 11 though.

I think you hit the nail on the head. You are not going to be able to get players out on the football field when they are juniors and seniors. It all begins with the little league. Its no coincidence that the best college teams also recruit very well.

Whether or not the thread is true about 11 player returning, there is still the issue of going 0-10.

The area has 1500 high school students. It's not the area's fault that only 30 of them want to play football. Maybe its the coach. Maybe its the school's culture toward the sport. Administration. Who knows? But it's not the area. That's like saying you don't have enough lumber for a house in the middle of the woods.

At McMinn Central, until they start playing football indoors on a hardwood court with a round ball and two ten foot goals then the administration won't care about it. That's been a problem for years.

Interesting.

I don’t think so. Central has had multiple years like this  in the past since Coach Goodin has been the HC. He’s a Central guy, and I’d say he will coach there as long as he wants.

Oh ok.  My son has some friends at Central and they have heard rumors of the coach wanting out is why I was asking.

That could be true. If so, then a change could occur.  I just doubt that the administration would ask him to leave. But then again, I’m not a Central guy and I’m not close to the program at all, so my opinion doesn’t really count

The McMinn County administration won't ask him to leave because the administration places no real value on athletics in McMinn County, other than offering lip service.  Too many coaches at both county high schools don't do a good job, but they know they don't have to be accountable.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
