Slightly above average talent! The Fillies program has had a run of talent you maybe get every 50 years if you're lucky. This year we've got 8 or 9 talented kids that can run. We made state last year and looked like Ned and the first reader! These girls deserve better coaching. Huntingdon hasn't figured out that you don't just hire someone to coach basketball you hire a basketball coach.

Always will be 4th in line behind football baseball and softball. Lowery is just drawing a check. Parents and fans have been disgusted with him for years. 2 juniors quit this year because of how he treats the girls. Had to beg girls to come to an open tryout a couple weeks ago to have enough to have a quality practice.  Rumor is this is his last year after his star senior point guard graduates. We can only hope and pray he takes his little boy and crazy wife with him

Dont know the guy, never seen Huntingtondon play, however this is a cheap shot bringing in his wife and child. Please be respectful.

The problem with hiring “ a basketball coach” is that there just aren’t that many of them out there.  And if they are any, they don’t stick around very long.  They move on to bigger and better things to make more money. West TN HS girls basketball isn’t the SEC and don’t have endless dollars to pay.  Not many people standing in line to get the meager basketball supplement that all schools pay.  “Basketball coaches” are very hard to come by!

Attended the Gibson Co Loretto game this afternoon at the Huntingdon Christmas tournament. Gibson Co ended up winning by 10. Gibson Co is a great defensive team, very well coached. Loretto played a very griddy game. Thought at half they would get blown out the 2nd half. To their credit they never quit and played Gibson Co pretty even the 2nd half. Great tournament. To win this tournament Huntingdon will have to beat Riverside, Gleason and Gibson Co. Pretty tough run!

What happened to Perry County? Saw they were up 30-10 at the half and lost to 2-10 Columbia Academy 51-50...Did Brooks get hurt?

Summertown knocks off Moore County 40-31. I am told Hawkins was zero factor in the game.

WHAT!?  Never mind did Brooks get hurt?  Was there a bench clearing brawl that left Perry County with only 3 players with none being guards to play the entire 2nd half, ala Alabama?  Inexcusable to lose after being up by 20 to a below average Columbia Academy team.

Hawkins did not have a great game but neither did the rest of the girls.  Sluggish. A win is a win and a loss is a loss.   1st district games are right around the corner.

Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers, plus the Lady Dawgs made shots they haven't made all year. There's a lot of drama going on with the team right now. Brooks fouled out down 1 with 1:30 left to go on a questionable foul call on a steal. She had  34 points and the other guard had 10. Supposedly there's some tension between the players and head coach. Just rumors not sure how true they are. But have been some questionable coaching calls that they have done. It's like mind games, it happens every year. Last year we lost to Waverly on the road when we beat them by 30 during a tournament. Until this team pulls together, the Lady Vikings may be in for a long district season.

    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
