I was at that game.  Lynn vs. Laird was a good show.  Thomas Simmons was a good player as well.  Back then, I knew Boots and some other Beech folks.  We were in the AAA tournament that year.  Good times.

Do you remember if Andre turner was on that team as well .. funny I still play golf with boots .,

We may have hijacked this thread, but I don't think Turner was on that team, he may have been a year or two before that.  I still think that was one of the best years for D1 talent in the state.  Boots and I had a mutual friend.  Ask him about Tubby (R.I.P.) sometime.

A couple questions .

1. Why is Hamilton so good ?

2. Is this Fulton's third straight year in state?

Tradition. 1970 Hamilton was #2 team in the state at 31-0 but lost to Melrose, whom they had beaten 4 times prior, in the regional semifinals. This will be our 13th state appearance. All the others were in AAA. . State appearances in 74',77',79',88',91'1992,1999, 2001, 2003,2006,2014,2015. State runner-ups in 77' and 79' State champs in 1991, 2006 and 2015. Tradition is why.

Can't argue with your picks but region 2AA is very competitive and usually has a very good team year to year. Strength of schedule for Alcoa and Fulton are higher than their competitors. I would think one of these teams would win their opening round game but anything is possible. 6 of our losses came against Fulton, Powell, and Webb. All state qualifiers in their respective classifications. We have wins against Grace Christain, Fulton, and Maryville. If we wasn't so young I would definitely pick us to win but who knows how we'll react once we start playing. We start 1 senior, 2 juniors and 2 sophomores. We have 4-5 freshman that typically play and 2 juniors as well. Freshman class is very good. Having said that my picks to opening round.

Alcoa and Fulton has just as much tradition if not more than Hamilton.

The general consensus seems to be when #3 allows others to participate in the offense Alcoa is a tough out for anyone. When he goes out looking to stuff the stat sheet they are mediocre at best. Also seems that #3 is the one to make the decision as to which it will be. Fulton baited Alcoa to play the latter in the Regional Final and they took it hook, line and sinker! Game over! Best of luck to them in the tourney though.

That's fine and we'll. The thing is every night in the Memphis area you play a tough game. Memphis teams go up against and beat some of the best teams in the country. It is a meat grinder here. Early in the year East and Hamilton beat some the best in the U.S. East is ranked in the top 25 and Hamilton in the top 250. The talent level here is awesome. Two metro schools, West Memphis, Arkansas and Olive Branch, Mississippi are playing for their state titles. Basketball is King here. Whitehaven in AAA and MASE in class A are good.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
