Starkville Vs West Point. The 2 Best teams in Mississippi and I’m willing to bet either team would run train on any Tennessee team including precious Maryville and Alcoa. It’s easy to always say how great you are and win all these championships but why not travel to Georgia or Alabama to play Hover? I’ll never understand how Maryville can have so many titles and never want to play better quality teams from other states. I guess 15-0 always looks better than 14-1. SAWFT. We was on another post a few years ago and was wondering why big name teams like maryville,Alcoa, whitehaven etc dont travel to NC,Ga etc to play top teams in there state. A Whitehaven poster Corrected me because I didn't know that they play some top teams out of Mississippi. I've always been curious. Oakland has played Hoover. Blackman played someone "cant reme.remember name" Pearl cohn took a trip to muscle shoals. Ensworth was playing trinity in Kzy. As a state I think we need 1 or two of these games. @BCsportsfan Help me out since your from the East side of the state. FBfan26: Whitehaven's started about 5 or 6 years ago traveling up to Missouri to play some schools. Then, we traveled to Alabama to play Florence for two years in a row. This year we go to Arkansas, to play North Little Rock who is the reigning 2017 state championship in 7A.
BatmanDevil
I think it's fine if schools want to play teams from other states ,I know the Devils have done it several times over the years.I also think if a team who already plays one heck of a tough schedule most years, doesn't want to travel several hours out of state, that's also fine.We are not playing for a Virginia,North Carolina or Kentucky state title in those games,so competition is competition nomatter what state they are from.I get to see plenty of other states best playing with and against the Vols.I know there are some great players all over the country but we have some great ones right here in Tennessee as well. But I also think when we can beat some of those top teams from other states folks will take TN Hs football more seriously. I'm also not saying ever year but ever blue moon Edited September 4, 2018 by FBfan26

The truth is, playing those games helps the kids. The recognition as a state goes beyond the fans, it translates to college programs. Now, I will say it means less now, since apparently you don’t have to be a football player if your combine numbers are good.

Looks like Division 1 coaches defer from your opinion when it comes to College Programs. If you are good enough to play at the next level they will find you. (Technology has changed and College Coaches have a lot more access to players films now than ever before). Has nothing to do with playing teams from other states, even though I did playing 10 years ago.

Some head coaches want the possible national exposure for both the players and the coaching staff while others truly don't care. I have always been one that wanted to compete on the biggest stage possible but others are content to only compete in their community. One is not better than the other it's just a matter of what direction the head coach wants to take his program. The major advantage of playing some of the top programs in the country early in the season is that they will expose each and every weakness on your team. This allows you to correct the mistakes before you get to the playoffs. Edited September 5, 2018 by cbg
