According to Wikipedia:

East Tennessee:    156 per square mile

West Tennessee:  140 per square mile

Middle Tennessee:  121 per square mile.

So while Middle and West may have greater overall populations, East Tennessee is denser.

Wikipedia is always a great place to acquire valid and credible information. It was actually used in the reference section for my dissertation titled, "@midtnmale : the making of a moron"

The problem is, where is the East West dividing line? Do you seed 1-32 and then cut it in half geographically? I hated the Z-Plan because of the wildcards, and we are complaining about polls in another thread. And seeding invites bias.  I didn't have all the kinks worked out when I posted this. There isn't an easy answer. I am in favor of constriction to 5 classes.

5 classes  yes

To fix this requires change and sacrifice... for some. Here is a stab at rearranging districts that would work but I guarantee a handful of schools in the west and middle-west wouldn't like it.  Just like Knox-area teams don't care for the drive to the Tri-Cities and vice versa (but we deal with it).

EAST (25)
Region 1 (6)
Dobyns Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN)
Jefferson Co. High School (Dandridge, TN)
Morristown-Hamblen High School West (Morristown, TN)
Science Hill High School (Johnson City, TN)
Bearden High School (Knoxville, TN)
Heritage High School (Maryville, TN)
Region 2 (6)
Maryville High School (Maryville, TN)
Bradley Central High School (Cleveland, TN)
Cleveland High School (Cleveland, TN)
Ooltewah High School (Ooltewah, TN)
McMinn Co. High School (Athens, TN)
William Blount High School (Maryville, TN)
Region
 3 (6)
Hardin Valley Academy (Knoxville, TN)
Farragut High School (Knoxville, TN)
Cookeville High School (Cookeville, TN)
Warren Co. High School (McMinnville, TN)
Coffee Co. Central High School (Manchester, TN)
Lebanon High School (Lebanon, TN)
Region 4 (7)
Oakland High School (Murfreesboro, TN)
Riverdale High School (Murfreesboro, TN)
Blackman High School (Murfreesboro, TN)
Siegel High School (Murfreesboro, TN)
Mt. Juliet High School (Mt. Juliet, TN)
Station Camp High School (Gallatin, TN)

Region 7 (6)
Independence High School (Thompson's Station, TN)
Centennial High School (Franklin, TN)
Dickson Co. High School (Dickson, TN)
Arlington High School (Arlington, TN)
Collierville High School (Collierville, TN)
Cordova High School (Cordova, TN)
Region 8 (6)
Bartlett High School (Bartlett, TN)

That's the region in the west that would cry bloody murder to the TSSAA. What kind of distance are we talking between Indy, Centennial, and Dickson to Cordova?

Agree 6A is skewed.  However, the first two rounds are typically a waste of time.  I suggest they only advance 2 teams per region and break it down to 8 or 12 regions geographically.  Has any 4th seed ever made it past round 3?  I know T$$AA loves the extra gate money, but the current system is too broad to pick the best teams in the state.  Ridiculous to play 3 games in August to make sure more than half the teams are in the playoffs.  Too many losing teams are playing in the post-season.  I would rather see an extra two weeks on the back end to let each team that wins a gold ball in their division play for a Platinum ball to name THE truly best team in the state! :popcorneater:

It happened last year. Knox Central made it to the 4th round.

Its happened 7-8 times in the last 15 or so years.

I know Livingston Academy was a 4 seed and they won a state championship about 10-15 years ago.

Then Ravenwood I believe either played for or won a state championship as a 4 seed about that same time.

I think it's important to consider where the denser populated portions of the State are. Middle and West are more densely populated; therefore, have larger schools. imo.

Yet out of towners think most people look, sound and talk like East TN folks smh lol sorry I had to say it
